John Deere Inspire is a global initiative that is designed to inspire the next generation of innovators through education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) coupled with connections and hands-on experiences with the real world.
John Deere considers STEM literacy increasingly important for all students regardless of career choice to support 21st century learning and jobs.
John Deere's ultimate goal with the initiative is to significantly increase the number of high-quality students, including diverse talent, who enroll, graduate and are successfully working in STEM related professions and consider John Deere as an employer of choice.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)
Non-Profit organization that was created by Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway in 1992. Today it reaches over 460,000 students worldwide in 80+ different countries through 4 programs for pre-college students age 6-18. Typically, the programs are offered as after school or weekend activities. These four programs are:
John Deere offers team grants for teams near Deere communities along with mentors from our global technical workforce. John Deere is one of the sponsors for the FIRST LEGO League Global Innovation Award and has supported FIRST Teams and events in the United States, Brazil, India, and Mexico.
Applications for John Deere FIRST team grants for the 2016-2017 season are being accepted as follows:
- Closed — FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition
- Open now — FIRST LEGO League Junior

Project Lead The Way (PLTW)
Non-profit organization that was created in 1997 and today is the leading provider of rigorous and innovative Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) education curricular programs used in elementary, middle and high schools across the U.S. Today, more than 10,500 PLTW programs can be found in over 9,000 elementary, middle, and high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
PLTW believes all students – beginning at a young age – need access to real-world, applied learning experiences that empower them to gain the skills they need to thrive in college, career, and beyond. Pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science provide hands-on learning opportunities from the first day of kindergarten through senior year. PLTW's research-supported approach empowers students to discover and explore interests, imagine and design solutions to real-world challenges, and become independent, confident problem solvers.
STEM education at all levels is imperative, offering PLTW programs to students will have an immediate impact on meeting John Deere's workforce needs. Trends show that school districts that implement PLTW Launch (Grades K-5) and Gateway (Grades 6-8) programs are more likely to add the high school PLTW programs. School districts understand the value of engaging students earlier so they are prepared and interested in the high school programs.
John Deere is providing PLTW financial support for the implementation of new middle school PLTW Gateway programs and new elementary school PLTW Launch programs in Deere communities along with providing on-going support with our volunteers. Grants now being accepted until December 15, 2016, for 2017-2018 new implementations.

John Deere supports and celebrates the annual Engineers Week in many of our key communities. The purpose of Engineers Week is to increase the public's awareness and appreciation of the engineering profession. During the Week, engineers participate in a variety of activities to help create an interest in engineering. This includes classroom visits to local schools and supporting the annual Introduce a Girl To Engineering Day event.
