Prof. Dr. Ing. Joachim Milberg retired from the role of Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BMW in May 2015. He had held this role since 2004. Milberg previously had been a member of BMW's Board of Management, starting in 1993, and was named chairman of the Board of Management and CEO of BMW in 1999, where he remained until his retirement from those roles in May 2002.
Prior to joining BMW in 1993, Milberg taught at Munich (Germany) Technical University. He also served as director of the Research Institute for Machine Tools and Management Science with the Centre for Production Automation and Robot Technology in Munich, and the Production Technology User Centre in Augsburg, Germany.
Milberg also serves on the board of directors of Bertelsmann AG. He is vice president of acatech – Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften. Previous directorships include Allianz Versicherungs AG, BMW AG, Festo AG, SAP AG, and ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
Milberg earned his doctorate in production engineering at the Technical University of Berlin in 1971.
