The 7 things you need to know about mulching.

Fertilizing your lawn just got easier. Just let your grass clippings do the job for you. Grass clipping mulch is the natural way to feed your lawn essential nutrients. Here are seven things you need to know:

1. Cut no more than 1/3 of your grass blade. John Deere recommends that you cut no more than a ¼-in off the top at any one time mowing. Your lawn will thank you.

2. Make sure your grass is dry when cutting. Or you will get a clumpy mess. Not good.

3. Watch for finely cut grass vs. “windrowing or clumping.” The latter can result in bare spots. And nobody has time for that.

4. Make sure your blade is sharp.  A sharp blade helps ensure a precise, quality cut. A dull blade tares the grass. Ouch. Doesn’t look good either.

5. Mow more frequently. Mulching returns Nitrogen-rich nutrients to your lawn. This feeds your lawn and can reduce the amount of fertilizer you need.

6. Choose the right mower blade for the job—specific mulching blades are designed to give you higher lift for a precise cut and optimum mulching performance.

The John Deere Mulch Control™ Kit with one-touch technology makes mulching easy. With the push of a button, you have a dedicated mulching system as well as the option to mulch while you side discharge mow or bag. All with the push of a button. Mulching blades included.
