Chad Pregracke simply loves his backyard, which just happens to be the Mississippi River. Little did he know that a pet project of his would spark a nationwide environmental movement unlike any other on the inland waterway system.
Pregracke founded Living Lands & Waters, a not-for-profit organization focused on creating a cleaner river environment. Over the years, he and 70,000 volunteers have pulled more than 7.5 million pounds of garbage from 23 rivers across the country.
Pregracke depends on the River Cleanup II to ply the waters of our nation's inland waterways. The 50-foot towboat underwent a complete repower and installed three PowerTech™ 9.0L marine propulsion engines, increasing fuel efficiency by at least 30 percent, and two 50-kW John Deere-powered generator sets.
