10 Steps to Keeping Your A/C System Running Smoothly

John Deere skid steer with back panel open showing the A/C system

Performing periodic checks and maintenance to ensure your air-conditioning system is working at its best is easy on John Deere E-Series Skid Steers and Compact Track Loaders. If you haven't performed these quick checks yet to be ready for the new season, now is a good time to do them.

Check the air-conditioner condenser for dirt, damage, leaks, and loose or broken mounting hardware:

1. Remove any attachments. Caution: Prevent personal injury by allowing the engine to cool so components can be touched with your bare hands.
2. Park the machine on a level surface.
3. Raise the boom and lock it in the raised position.
4. Open the engine cover and remove the engine side panels.
5. Remove the pin on the right side of the machine.
6. Swing the bracket away from the air-conditioner condenser. Important: Beware of damage to the dust-unloader valve as the air-conditioner condenser may contact it while pivoting.
7. Pivot the air-conditioner condenser in a downward motion, away from the machine.
8. Clean the air-conditioner condenser and radiator fins using compressed air. Note: The pin can only be installed from the underside of the bracket.
9. Close the air-conditioner condenser and bracket. Replace the pin.
10. Replace the engine side panels and close the engine cover. Lower the boom.

Check cab fresh-air and recirculation-air filters

1. Park the machine on a level surface.
2. Remove the knobs from the guard behind the operator's seat.
3. Remove the guard.
4. Remove the cab fresh-air filter and recirculation-air filter.
5. Inspect filters for debris or damage, and replace if necessary.
6. Replace the filters.
7. Replace the guard and knobs.
