Troy Taylor has a passion for entrepreneurship. That's evident in his role as CEO of Coca-Cola Beverages Florida and now as owner of one of John Deere's larger dealerships—Tellus Equipment Solutions.
It's also evident when he talks about the impact he has on people, such as providing a future for his family, growing the skills of his employees and meeting the needs of his customers.
"Customers are people, and people tend to want the same things, they want you to be honest with them, they want you to treat them with respect … to engage with them and build a relationship," Taylor said.
Taylor recently sat down with Marc Howze, John Deere's group president of Lifecycle Solutions and CAO, to discuss his background, his bottling company and why he chose to purchase 21 John Deere dealerships in Texas, where Tellus is headquartered.
"John Deere represents the type of brand that me and my family wanted to be associated with," Taylor said. "Long-standing brand, top-tier brand, known for its precision, known for its quality, known for its customer service and known for its longevity."
Taylor said John Deere's new operating model, which focuses on unlocking customer value, was also a key factor in his decision to invest in a large agriculture dealership.
"There is a great opportunity to grow it organically because of what (Deere is) doing with precision ag solutions … and doing it in a way that really helps the customer," Taylor said. "These are things that will uniquely position the customer—the users of this equipment—to do their jobs better, more efficiently, more effectively and more profitably."
