Full of grit and drive and skill. And at the heart of it all are Deere machines. The trusted tools used to get that meaningful work done, and get it done right.

 

How We Do It

It all starts with an on-site photo video shoot. Don't worry, we keep it easy. Our goal is to capture you doing what you do in your best light. Shoots are relaxed and fun, usually lasting two or three days, and they're a great chance for your crew and your business to shine. If you'd like to be considered, let us know.

How long is a shoot?

Most shoots follow this format, but the timing can vary depending on what's needed:

  • Day 1: Our crew will travel in the morning. In the afternoon, crew members will scout the jobsite and get familiar with the location.
  • Day 2: This is typically a full shoot day and includes interviews.
  • Day 3 (if needed): The following morning is reserved for additional shots or as a backup in case of delays (e.g., bad weather). Our crew travels home in the afternoon.

What are the interviews like? Who do you interview?

We typically conduct around three interviews, each lasting about 30 minutes. To capture a well-rounded story, we aim to speak with individuals from different levels of the company. Interviewees often include:

  • High-level: Owners or managers who provide a big-picture view of the company.
  • Mid-level: Project or fleet managers who offer operational insights.
  • Ground-level: Operators who speak to day-to-day experience with the equipment.

Can I get a list of interview questions beforehand?

We typically don't share questions in advance. That's because the best interviews happen when people speak naturally and authentically — without reciting rehearsed answers. The good news is, we're not trying to stump anyone. Most questions are straightforward, and chances are you already know the answers.

What should we wear?

Wear whatever you normally would to the jobsite — just keep a couple of things in mind. Avoid clothing with large logos (other than your company's) or offensive language and consider removing any stickers from hard hats that you wouldn't want on camera. We want you to look like you, just camera-ready.

Will this interrupt our workflow?

We do our best to let you do your thing. Our crew works quickly and efficiently, capturing what we need without slowing you down. Most of the time, we're just documenting what's already happening on site — with minimal disruption.

What should I do to prepare?

A little prep goes a long way in making the shoot smooth and successful. Here's how you can help:

  1. Get permissions: Make sure we have approval to film at the site. This may include checking with landowners, subcontractors, or your company's leadership.
  2. Choose the right job: Pick a project that highlights the kind of work you're proud of. While we understand mixed fleets are common, we can't include competitive brands in our footage. So we aim to feature as much John Deere equipment as possible. Also, keep in mind that a scenic location makes a big difference on camera.
  3. Prepare your crew: Let your team know we'll be on-site and give them a heads-up about:
    • Release forms: Everyone who appears on camera will need to sign one.
    • Safety protocols: We'll follow all site-specific safety rules and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). If there are any special requirements, let us know in advance.

Will we have a chance to review content before it prints?

Yes! You'll get to review the story before it's published. That way, you can make sure everything looks right and you can feel confident about the finished product!

Should I get the machines detailed?

It's totally up to you. If clean machines are your style and something you'd do anyway, go for it. But don't feel like you have to. We love showing machines in their element — muddy, dusty, and working hard. That's the real story.

Where does the content live?

Your story will be featured in The Dirt magazine and also online at JohnDeere.com. Customer videos appear on our YouTube playlist, and photos may also be used in internal communications, social media, or even national advertising.

When will everything be ready?

Print stories take some time — usually a few weeks — so we plan ahead to align with publishing schedules. Once everything's finalized, we'll send you a link to view the content as it goes live.

How does this shoot benefit me?
