John Deere Golf wows them at Golf Industry Show
Thousands of golf course maintenance professionals, hundreds of manufacturers, days of educational programming and relationship building galore. What is it? The annual Golf Industry Show (GIS) and Education Conferences – the most anticipated event in the golf maintenance industry.
John Deere Golf is right in the middle of the excitement. In the almost 11,000 square foot booth, customers are crowding in to see how John Deere equipment is used on the best courses on Earth. And, they’re hearing about exciting new mowing and aeration innovations coming from John Deere later this year.
"There's a renewed sense of optimism," said Mark Ford, marketing manager for John Deere Golf. "And, this year at GIS, we're reminded of that – by the enthusiasm of those in attendance, and dialogue we're able to have with our existing customers and those who are interested in learning more about John Deere. This event is an exceptional opportunity to listen to what the industry needs, and demonstrate how John Deere Golf delivers trusted performance, and helps superintendents prepare for the future."
John Deere is also stepping up its commitment to the golf industry as a whole, with its announcement of a partnership with The First Tee through a $1 Million donation.
In addition to activities at the booth, John Deere Golf is sponsoring the 19th Annual Collegiate Turf Bowl competition. Turf management students from around the U.S. are competing for a $4,000 team prize and bragging rights, all while learning what it takes to be a successful golf course maintenance professional. On Thursday evening, John Deere Golf will congratulate the winning team after a grueling half-day competition.
"As GIS is winding down, we’re encouraged by the positive outlook of the industry,” continued Ford. “There is a new willingness and confidence in this game – and we’re proud to be a part of it!"
John Deere donates $1 Million to The First Tee Organization
At the recent 2013 Golf Industry Show one of John Deere Golf’s three themes was “Committed to the Game.” Proof of that was the announcement in the Deere booth on Thursday morning that the John Deere Foundation was making a $1 million dollar donation to The First Tee.
"At John Deere, we're constantly looking for new ways to give back to the golf industry to ensure our customers have a healthy environment for future business success,” said Jim Field, president of the John Deere Ag & Turf Division. "Most recently, we're thrilled to announce our $1 Million donation to The First Tee for 2013. Over the next five years, we're looking forward to watching how our investment ignites a passion for youth across the country for the game of golf and the science of turf care."
Over the next five years, The First Tee will use the John Deere donation to create and launch a golf maintenance career-development oriented youth program in conjunction with the PGA TOUR. Local chapters of The First Tee will partner with the TOUR’s Tournament Player Courses (TPCs) to provide the chance for high school-aged participants to learn around topics in agronomy and golf course maintenance careers.
As an extension, program participants particularly interested in a career in the golf industry will have the chance to experience what it’s actually like to maintain a TPC golf course during a tournament week.
