A great company is also a great citizen. We aspire to be a catalyst for positive global change by focusing on solving world hunger, empowering others through education, and developing our home communities. We will do this by investing purposefully and focusing our philanthropic and volunteerism efforts to achieve higher and sustainable living standards for people everywhere.
Solutions for World Hunger
Throughout our history, John Deere has helped our customers meet the challenge of feeding the world through advanced products and services. As global population and the demand for food continues to grow, we are focused on enabling farmers in developing countries to boost their productivity. As a result, our Citizenship work aspires to transform under-resourced agricultural communities in developing countries through distinctive and sustainable solutions for world hunger. Specifically, we support projects in the areas of farmer training, value-chain enhancement, and water access and use.
Key partners include KickStart, Opportunity International, TechnoServe the World Food Program, and Water.org.
As one of our core values, innovation is critical to John Deere's success. For innovation to thrive, however, vigorous educational opportunities must exist to teach and inspire our next generation of innovators. We invest in projects that provide inspiring, rewarding and innovative educational experiences for both youth and adults, particularly in our home communities.
Some examples of our partners include Junior Achievement, various STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) organizations, arts and culture groups focusing on youth outreach, community colleges and higher education, and adult re-training programs.
With facilities throughout the world, we understand the important economic impact John Deere makes in our many home communities. Operating a successful business not only supports our employees, but creates rich and diverse opportunities for community growth. Therefore, our Citizenship investments support economic development, resiliency and safety programs, and community relations activities.
Key partners in John Deere communities include chambers of commerce, economic development corporations, local United Ways and the organizations they support, food banks and the American Red Cross.
John Deere Classic
We are proud to be the title sponsor for the John Deere Classic, an event that, in addition to bringing significant tourism dollars to the Quad Cities, has raised more than $49 million for local charities. Despite operating in one of the PGA Tour's smaller markets, the John Deere Classic ranks among the top five on Tour in total charitable contributions.
