Charles O. Holliday, Jr. is chairman of the board, Bank of America Corporation, a position he has held since April 2010. Since 2012 he has also served as chairman of the National Academy of Engineering.

 

Holliday previously served as chairman of the board of DuPont from January 1999 until his retirement in December 2009.

 

Holliday joined DuPont as an engineer at Old Hickory, Tennessee, in 1970. He held various manufacturing assignments for several years, and then he held positions of increasing responsibility, including corporate plans manager, global business director, and director of marketing.

 

In 1990, Holliday became vice president and then president of DuPont Asia Pacific, based in Tokyo, Japan. He was appointed senior vice president of DuPont in 1992, and then executive vice president and member of the office of chief executive, and chairman-Asia Pacific in 1995. Holliday was elected director and then president of DuPont in 1997. He served as chief executive officer beginning in February 1998, and chairman and chief executive officer beginning in January 1999. He retired as chief executive officer in January 2009.

 

Besides serving on the board of Deere & Company and chairing the board of directors for Bank of America Corporation, Holliday serves as chairman of the National Academy of Engineering, of which he has been a member since 2004, and director of CH2M HILL Companies, Ltd. and Royal Dutch Shell plc. He is a director of the National Geographic Foundation-Education, the STS Forum, and the World Wildlife Fund.

 

Holliday serves as chairman of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the Council on Competitiveness Worldwide Federation, the Yale University Environment Advisory Board, and the U.N./World Bank–Sustainable Energy for All. He is chairman emeritus of the U.S. Council on Competitiveness. Additionally, Holliday is a founding member of the International Business Council.

 

Holliday graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. He received honorary doctorates from Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, New York, in 2005 and from Washington College, Chestertown, Maryland, in 1998.
