Engines and Components 2009 Press Releases and Information
John Deere Power Systems exhibits at World of Concrete show in Las Vegas
WATERLOO, Iowa (February 3, 2009) — John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) will exhibit its Tier 3/Stage III A engines and 130 kW (174 hp) and above Interim Tier 4/Stage III B technologies at the World of Concrete trade show in Las Vegas February 3 – 6, 2009.
John Deere will display the exhaust filter it will use to meet the stringent Interim Tier 4/Stage III B mobile off-highway emissions regulations for engines 130 kW (174 hp) and above. John Deere is also exhibiting engines from its PowerTech™ Plus family, which employ the technologies John Deere will build on to meet Interim Tier 4/Stage III B regulations 130 kW (174 hp) and above.
These emissions regulations, which begin in 2011, require a 90 percent reduction in diesel particulates (PM) and a 50 percent reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) from previous Tier 3/Stage III A requirements.
To achieve compliance with these emissions regulations, John Deere will start with its proven Tier 3/Stage III A PowerTech Plus engine platform, add an exhaust filter for reducing particulates, and increase the percentage of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) for NOx control.
John Deere will also display engines from its Tier 3/Stage III A PowerTech M, E and Plus lineups at World of Concrete. The engines on display are:
- The PowerTech M 4.5L engine features mechanical controls, a 2-valve cylinder head, fixed-geometry turbocharger, mechanical rotary pump fuel system and turbocharged or air-to-air aftercooled aspiration.
- The PowerTech E 3.0L, 4.5L and the 6.8L engines feature full-authority electronic controls, 2-valve cylinder heads, electronic fuel injection, and fixed-geometry turbochargers with turbocharged or air-to-air aftercooled aspirations. PowerTech 3.0L engines feature electronic unit pump fuel systems, and PowerTech E 4.5L and 6.8L engines feature high-pressure common-rail fuel systems.
- The PowerTech Plus 6.8L, 9.0L and the 13.5L engines feature cooled EGR and variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) technologies, electronically controlled high-pressure fuel systems, 4-valve cylinder heads and full-authority electronic controls. PowerTech Plus engines also feature an air-to-air aftercooled aspiration and high-pressure common-rail (6.8L and 9.0L) or electronic unit injector (13.5L) fuel systems. PowerTech Plus technologies are the foundation John Deere has built upon for its Interim Tier 4/Stage III B engines 130 kW (174 hp) and above.
John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) manufactures and markets 30 kW to 448 kW (40 hp to 600 hp) industrial diesel engines and 56 kW to 559 kW (75 hp to 750 hp) marine diesel engines, as well as drivetrain components for use in a variety of off-highway applications.
