John Deere Power Systems Displays Diesel Engines and Drivetrain Components at the Offshore Technology Conference
WATERLOO, Iowa (April 22, 2008) — John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) will exhibit two of its Tier 3/Stage III A-certified diesel engines — the PowerTech™ Plus 9.0L and 13.5L — at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, May 5 – 8. JDPS will also display a quad pump drive and a Tier 2/Stage II PowerTech 8.1L engine with a patent-pending, increased-safety electronics package.
John Deere engines and drivetrain components have an excellent reputation for durability and reliability, and because uptime is crucial to those who work in the petroleum industry, these products have been a good fit for this market.
Product highlights:
- The PowerTech Plus 9.0L provides a power range of 168 kW – 298 kW (225 hp – 400 hp). This engine features a four-valve cylinder head, a high-pressure common-rail fuel system, cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) and an air-to-air aftercooling system. The PowerTech Plus 9.0L boasts best-in-class fuel economy and power density, and when compared to its Tier 2/Stage II counterpart, it features improved or maintained cold-weather starting and transient-response time, higher power bulge, higher peak torque, and more low-speed torque.
- The PowerTech Plus 13.5L provides a power range of 261 kW – 448 kW (350 hp – 600 hp). This engine features a four-valve cylinder head, an electronic unit injector fuel system, cooled EGR, a VGT and an air-to-air aftercooling system. The PowerTech Plus 13.5L also boasts best-in-class fuel economy and power density, and when compared to its Tier 2/Stage II counterpart, it features improved or maintained cold-weather starting and transient-response time, higher power bulge, higher peak torque, and more low-speed torque.
- The Tier 2/Stage II PowerTech 8.1L provides a power range of 175 kW – 280 kW (235 hp – 375 hp). When equipped with its increased-safety package, this electronically controlled engine is designed for use in Class 1, Zone 1 applications.
- The 57000 quad pump drive is designed for a maximum input torque of 2712 Nm (2000 lb/ft) and maximum input power of 708 kW (950 hp). Available in SAE sizes C through E, the 57000 requires minimal lubrication. More than 5,000 different configurations allow John Deere pump drives to meet countless equipment needs.
"At John Deere, we have a persistent drive to provide technologically advanced, durable engines with the reliability, fuel economy and performance to satisfy the requirements of tough-duty applications," said Curtis Ritter, application engineer for JDPS. "The John Deere engine’s suitability for oil and gas applications stems from the company’s long-term commitment to these industries."
In addition to the products on display at OTC, John Deere Power Systems also offers a full lineup of industrial diesel engines in 2.4L, 3.0L, 4.5L, 6.8L, 9.0L and 13.5L displacements with a power range of 30 kW to 448 kW (40 hp to 600 hp). These engines are U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and European Union emissions-certified. The full lineup of marine diesel engines offers 4.5L, 6.8L, 8.1L and 12.5L displacements with a power range of 56 kW to 455 kW (75 hp to 610 hp). These marine engines are MARPOL Annex VI compliant, meet EPA Tier 2, IWT and RDC requirements, and they feature low noise, low vibration and excellent fuel economy. JDPS also offers pump drives, planetary gear drives, transmissions and axles for a variety of off-highway applications. All of these products are available for the petroleum market, and with more than 4,000 locations, JDPS has one of the most extensive engine service networks in the world.
