John Deere Power Systems Displays Diesel Engines and Drivetrain Components at MINExpo International©

WATERLOO, Iowa (September 10, 2008) — John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) will exhibit one of its Tier 3/Stage III A-certified diesel engines — the PowerTech™ E 4.5L — at MINExpo International in Las Vegas, Sept. 22 – 24. JDPS will also display a quad pump drive and a TeamMate II inboard planetary axle.

John Deere engines and drivetrain components have an excellent reputation for durability and reliability, and because uptime is crucial to those who work in the mining industry, these products have been a good fit for this market.

Product highlights:

  • The PowerTech E 4.5L engine has a power range of 63 kW to 104 kW (85 hp to 140 hp), with full-authority electronic controls, 2-valve cylinder heads, a high-pressure common-rail fuel system with electronic fuel injection, and a fixed-geometry turbocharger in turbocharged or air-to-air aftercooled aspiration systems. The engine also features 63 kW (85 hp) at 2400 rpm and 74 kW (99 hp) at 2400 rpm ratings certified by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) for underground use.
  • The 59000 quad pump drive is designed for a maximum input torque of 1695 Nm (1250 lb/ft) and maximum input power of 522 kW (700 hp). Available in SAE sizes A, B, C and D, the 59000 requires minimal lubrication. More than 5,000 different configurations allow John Deere pump drives to meet countless equipment needs.
  • Part of the TeamMate II series, the 1200 inboard planetary axle is rated at a peak vertical load of 240,000 N (54,000 lb) per axle. Because the axle doesn’t compete for wheel space, it offers the operator much more flexibility in terms of tire size. The series 1200 can be custom-built to the specific feature, torque and load requirements of mining customers.

"All of our industrial engines are built to handle tough, off-highway applications, which makes them ideal for the mining industry," said Dale Tayloe, product manager for JDPS. "Additionally, John Deere MSHA-certified engines provide uninterrupted power and maximum uptime in underground mining applications."

JDPS offers other mechanically and electronically controlled models and ratings certified by MSHA for underground applications. These include the 2.4L, 3.0L and 4.5L models with power levels at 37 kW (49hp), 46 kW (61 hp), 49 kW (66 hp), 56 kW (75 hp), 62 kW (83 hp) and 74 kW (99hp) with rated speeds of 2400 rpm or 2800 rpm. These mechanically controlled models feature mechanical unit pump or mechanical rotary injection pump fuel systems, 2-valve cylinder heads and fixed-geometry turbochargers in turbocharged or air-to-air after-cooled aspiration systems. The electronically controlled models feature 2-valve cylinder heads, electronic fuel systems, and fixed-geometry turbochargers in turbocharged or air-to-air aftercooled aspiration systems.

In addition to the products on display at MINExpo International, John Deere Power Systems also offers a full lineup of industrial diesel engines in 2.4L, 3.0L, 4.5L, 6.8L, 9.0L and 13.5L displacements with a power range of 30 kW to 448 kW (40 hp to 600 hp). These engines are U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and European Union emissions-certified. JDPS also offers pump drives, planetary gear drives, transmissions and axles for a variety of off-highway applications. All of these products are available for the mining market, and John Deere application engineers are available to assist OEMs with custom requirements. With more than 4,000 service locations, JDPS has one of the most extensive engine service networks in the world.

John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) manufactures and markets 30 kW to 448 kW (40 hp to 600 hp) industrial diesel engines and 56 kW to 455 kW (75 hp to 610 hp) marine diesel engines, as well as drivetrain components for use in a variety of off-highway applications.
