VACUUM METER ENHANCEMENTS FOR JOHN DEERE PLANTERS

LENEXA, Kansas (August 23, 2007) — Growers continuously look for convenient, integrated planting methods to improve seed singulation, spacing and depth control to optimize yield potential for all crops. John Deere's field-proven vacuum meter has been enhanced to improve seed singulation with user-friendly settings.

"John Deere is an industry leader in designing and manufacturing the most productive planters in the market today," says Rob Rippchen, division marketing manager, John Deere Seeding. "Now, we've enhanced the design of our vacuum meters to improve seed singulation and to drop the seed precisely in the seed trench. Growers will appreciate how the new meter maximizes the potential for high yields at harvest."

The Pro-Series™ vacuum meter has a completely redesigned external adjustable double eliminator with defined set points and easier settings for row-to-row repeatability and accuracy. The meter housing has also been redesigned with a new hub to make the meter more accurate.

"For difficult-to-singulate corn seeds, the Pro Max 40 flat disk and double eliminator is a viable alternative to traditional cell-type seed disks," explains Rippchen. "Flat disks require a higher vacuum pressure, however, because there is no pocket or cell to hold the seed."

A higher vacuum pressure can lead to picking up more than one seed in the holes of the disk. A special double eliminator is set to cover a portion of the hole and knock multiple seeds away as the disk rotates. This leads to overall improved seed singulation and ultimately better seed placement in the seed trench.

"The three-position double eliminator means that no matter the seed size or seed treatment option, operators will enjoy top performance with no compromises," adds Rippchen.

Other new features for all John Deere vacuum meters, Max-Emerge™ and Pro-Series, include a heavier hub spring and improved disk latching handle. The heavier hub spring ensures that the seed disk stays properly positioned, especially when operating the flat seed disks. The disk latching handle allows for easy operation and effortless seed disk changeover.

"With all the improvements on the vacuum meters, we've added even more accuracy and productivity to our planter lineup," concludes Rippchen. "We encourage customers to visit with their local John Deere dealer to see the new meters and all the other great features of our planter lineup."
