John Deere employs patented offset cutting units and cutting-unit suspension to minimize perimeter compaction and turf wear. In addition, all hydraulics have been removed from the cutting unit drive circuit, eliminating more than a hundred potential leak points and making the mower safer and more environmentally friendly.

The cutting units themselves are driven by electric reel motors, which can be used to mow, to verticut, and for scalping operations when over-seeding. A 48V, 90-amp alternator is belt-driven by the engine, providing consistent cutting power to the units at all times.

The 2500E also features a reel switch box that enables the operator to control reel speed, reel direction, and backlap function. The grass catchers have been designed for optimum catching efficiency and improved cut quality.
