Sneak Peek: New Grass Catcher Option on the Way
In addition to the current weight-transfer grass catcher system, a new direct-mounted grass catcher will be available for all John Deere 2500 riding greens mowers, as well as the 180 and 220 E-Cut™ Hybrid Walk greens mowers.
“The new grass catcher is designed similar to our SL model walk greens mowers,” said John Deere Golf Product Manager Tracy Lanier. “It is a direct-mounted system, meaning the catcher will be attached directly to our QA5 cutting unit.”
The grass catcher follows contours exactly as the reel does, maximizing the volume of grass thrown into the catcher, and making it ideal for undulating greens.
Molded-in grooves and mounting brackets make it easy for operators to remove and replace the catcher, which is made from a lightweight polyethylene material that resists corrosion and cracking, and reduces vibration.
“Since the redesigned grass catcher is mounted directly to the cutting unit, weight will be added to the reel unit as the catcher fills with grass and debris,” said Lanier. “This means in some turf conditions that the new grass catchers may need to be emptied more often compared to our current weight transfer system.
“The current weight transfer system will still be available for 2500s,” said Lanier. “It’s a good choice for customers who wish to empty less often.”
