For the past 37 years, John Deere has been a proud sponsor of the National Outstanding Young Farmer Awards Program. The program is organized by the Outstanding Farmers of America Fraternity, a non-profit organization made up of past nominees of the program. Outstanding Farmers of America is dedicated to educating the importance and the impact agriculture producers have on the American economy.

Each year the Outstanding Farmers of America Fraternity recognizes four top notch young farmers with the National Outstanding Young Farmers Award. The producers must excel in all aspects of farming; including technology, farm implements, conservations practices and other equipment used in today’s operations. He or she must also demonstrate involvement in local or state government, civic group, or charitable organizations. Farmers, under the age of 41, from all across the United States are eligible to apply. Through an independent judging process, 10 finalists are selected from the original nominations. Four winners then receive the National Outstanding Young Farmer award.

Rich and Debbie Norz were picked as one of the four winners, in 2010. He and his wife are row crop, vegetable and agritourism producers from New Jersey.

Here is how they describe the organization “This is such a rewarding program. We have built lifelong friendships with producers from all around the country” says Rich. In 2012, Rich and Debbie accepted the role of candidate coordinators for the program. They are also active members in the Outstanding Farmers of America Fraternity.
