Deere Volunteers Promote Clean and Green Living
Employee volunteers from John Deere's plant in Pune, India, received a Stewardship Award at the second annual Environmental & Energy Awards ceremony.
The team's project, "Clean Green Rural Community Development," was designed to instill a culture of clean and green living for primary school children in a rural community through renovation and ongoing education.
The team approached its objective through a variety of activities, including: conducting a seed planting program for primary school children; planting hundreds of trees around a school: renovating five anganwadis, or early learning centers, in the Sanaswadi area, about 15 miles northeast of Pune; building washroom facilities for schoolchildren at Darekarwadi, also northeast of Pune; improving awareness of personal hygiene and its impact on health; and teaching schoolchildren the importance of caring for the environment.
