Worldwide Supply Management received an Achievement Award at Deere's second annual Environmental & Energy Awards ceremony.
The award recognized Worldwide Supply Management for its "JD CROP – Supplier Environmental Sustainability" project, which integrated recognition for supplier environmental initiatives into our overall supplier recognition program. Suppliers are now awarded credit toward their overall ranking if they submit environmental projects in our Achieving Excellence program.
Response was very positive — Deere suppliers submitted over 150 projects to reduce the environmental impact of their operations in energy, water, wastewater, and solid waste.
Examples of supplier successes include one company that reduced its water consumption nearly 60% through metering and monitoring.
Another supplier reduced its landfill tonnage 50% by implementing a returnable container program.
And one supplier reduced its greenhouse gas emissions 30% by changing from diesel fuel to natural gas.
In addition to reducing their environmental footprints, Deere suppliers who submitted projects saved more than $200,000.
