New Deere Excavator Choices Provide Big Performance in Smaller Packages

MOLINE, Illinois (March 12, 2008) - John Deere has introduced two new sizes in its family of D-Series excavators, filling out the line with the compact 60D and mid-sized 85D. The new units retain the industry-leading features of the popular D-Series line.

";The 85D excavator has a swing-boom, which compliments the conventional-boom 75D in the John Deere D-Series and gives contractors a choice for landscaping work, light residential excavating, site development and underground work,"; said Mark Wall, excavator product marketing manager for John Deere. ";And the 60D is a great new option in compact excavators because it sits near the top end of the compact scale, giving remarkable power in a small size.";

Both new excavators feature reduced tail-swing designs that allow them to rotate freely within a small radius and get closer to objects on congested jobsites. Greater maneuverability also means more productivity when working in confined spaces and around obstacles.

The 85Ds swing boom allows it to dig parallel to walls and foundations. And with increased swing torque and drawbar pull, the 85D produces like a larger machine. It feels like a bigger machine as well, with a comfortable cab that features an advanced LCD monitor for following key machine functions.

Other enhancements include a high-efficiency cooling system, a rugged fuel-efficient Tier 3 diesel, and improved serviceability. Rubber tracks are optional.

Extended engine and hydraulic oil service intervals help maximize uptime and reduce daily operating costs. The Powerwise III™ engine/hydraulic management system maximizes power output, saves fuel, and delivers smooth multifunction hydraulic operation.

The 60D provides the strength of a larger excavator in a smaller package. This compact checks in at a height of 8 feet, 5 inches and with a width of 6 feet, 7 inches, making it a true compact. The tail swing overhang is a mere 12 inches when rotated 90 degrees.

A long arm/heavy counterweight option adds 573 lbs. of counterweight and 12 inches more dig depth and reach. Steel tracks and rubber pads are optional.

The 60D';s engine is interim Tier 4 with 40.5 hp at 2,000 rpm.

Operators can be more productive in both new D-Series excavators due to the easy-to-enter cab. The spacious, well-appointed cab offers substantial, virtually unrestricted visibility and ergonomically arranged controls. Machine operations can be monitored with ease on the intuitive, multifunction LCD screen. All the creature comforts are there as well, like automatic climate control, AM/FM radio, and a deluxe-suspension multi-position seat.

Deere & Company (NYSE: DE) is the world';s leading provider of advanced products and services for agricultural and forestry and a major provider of advanced products and services for construction, lawn and turf care, landscaping and irrigation. John Deere also provides financial services worldwide and manufactures and markets engines used in heavy equipment. Since it was founded in 1837, the company has extended its heritage of integrity, quality, commitment and innovation around the globe. John Deere Construction & Forestry produces more than 120 machine models and distributes its construction, forestry and worksite products.
