Commitment at John Deere Today

Commitment means doing our best to meet expectations predictably on time, every time, over the long run.

The company that bears our founder's name continues to demonstrate many of the same characteristics that it did in its early days. In particular, its commitment to customers, employees and communities remains as constant today as it was then.

Commitment to customers
John Deere demonstrates its commitment to customers by offering more than quality products. Through its employees and dealers, the company strives to build strong relationships with customers, understand their challenges, and provide the products and services that will make them successful.

Company initiatives, like the customer focus program in John Deere's Agricultural and Commercial & Consumer Equipment Divisions, constantly assess customer needs to ensure that the company delivers the products customers want. Employees and dealers strive to make it easy for customers to do business with John Deere.

Commitment to employees
John Deere demonstrates its commitment to employees a variety of ways, including through its competitive salary and benefit packages. The company's workplaces are among the safest in industry, thanks to an award-winning employee safety program.

Through advancements in technology, John Deere employees with similar responsibilities and challenges can share information and learn from each other in ways that were never possible before. The company's commitment to innovation – another core value – provides resources that allow employees around the world to collaborate and grow.

Increased connectivity and focus also help employees develop a shared understanding of business processes and values. This enables them to understand what it means to be a John Deere employee and the role they play in the company's success.

To prepare its workforce for the challenges of dealing with tomorrow's competitive marketplace, John Deere offers comprehensive training and development programs that help employees to build their skills and advance their careers. The company provides feedback that helps employees develop and determine their own career paths. With ready access to information about jobs and the qualifications needed, employees can map their own careers.

Through the John Deere Production System, wage employees are cross-trained to capably perform a variety of jobs. When production priorities change, employees with flexible job skills can sustain operating performance without loss of productivity, efficiency or quality.

Commitment to communities
John Deere extends its commitment beyond traditional John Deere communities. In 2005, the John Deere Foundation, the company's philanthropic arm, donated two million dollars to aid tsunami victims in Asia and the survivors of hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast region of the United States.

Just as the company has extended its global reach, so has its philanthropic giving. The John Deere Foundation of Canada was established in 1985, and benefits thousands of people in John Deere communities throughout Canada. And in 2004, the company established the European Goodwill Fund to address sponsorships and donation requests from John Deere communities throughout Europe and South Africa.
