Lane Advocates for Climate Change Solutions

(March 19, 2008) – John Deere Chairman and CEO Robert W. Lane is one of three CEOs featured in an advertising campaign urging U.S. government legislation limiting greenhouse gas emissions.

The campaign was created by the Environmental Defense Fund and urges action to address climate change in a way that helps the economy, such as advancing clean-energy technology.

John Deere has taken the position that climate change is an important global business issue and that the company must proactively participate in finding solutions that consider John Deere's business interests and those of its customers.

Together with other global companies, Deere has said that U.S. policy to address climate change can be crafted in a way that can preserve economic competitiveness, generate new technologies and jobs, serve as a platform for U.S. leadership internationally, and create additional markets for customers and products.

Environmental Defense Fund and John Deere both joined the United States Climate Action Partnership (USCAP) in early 2007. USCAP is a coalition of businesses and environmental groups formed to encourage prompt action on global climate change.

In the ad, Lane is joined by Alexander Cutler, Chairman and CEO of Eaton Corporation and Frank Knapp, Jr., President and CEO of the South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce. The ad began airing in targeted media markets on March 16 and will also appear in online newspapers.
