John Deere Units Earn Safety Awards
(August 31, 2007) – John Deere units have earned 77 safety awards from the National Safety Council (NSC), a nonprofit public service organization that tracks workplace safety records.
Forty-four Deere units received the organization's Occupational Excellence Achievement Award. The award recognizes units who report injury and illness rates less than half the average of organizations in their Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code, as well as no fatalities during the year. The rates are calculated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Twenty-two units received the Perfect Record Award, which recognizes at least 12 consecutive months without an occupational injury or illness that resulted in days away from work or death. Eleven Deere units received the Significant Improvement Award for achieving at least a 20 percent reduction during 2006 in injuries and illnesses that involved days away from work.
NSC members include more than 48,000 businesses, labor organizations, schools, public agencies, private groups and individuals. Members apply for recognition based on their safety records. Deere has received 984 safety awards since NSC started its recognition program.

Occupational Excellence Achievement Award
Recognizes participants that have reported injuries and illnesses that involved days away from work, equal to or less than 50 percent of the BLS rate for their SIC/NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) Code, and have had no fatalities during the calendar year.
