Civic Betterment for Organic Growth

The foundation's support of community development is important for organic growth. In 2006, the foundation approved a $500,000 grant to the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance to support economic development in Waterloo, Iowa, where a major John Deere factory is located. Another example is the $100,000 grant to the Illinois Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce, which serves Moline, Illinois, where John Deere's Worldwide Headquarters and other facilities are located, to support the chamber's five-year development plan. Civic betterment through the John Deere Foundation is often inspired and supported by senior John Deere officers and managers who are involved in many community projects.

Community Development Success Story: Fargo Economic Development Commission
John Deere recognizes the value of investing in communities as a way to make them more attractive places to live, work, and visit. In Fargo, North Dakota, the newly renovated Fargo Theatre is part of a revitalization effort by the Fargo Economic Development Commission to transform the city's downtown from primarily warehouse and office space to hotels, restaurants, and museums.

The Fargo Theatre Civic pride is evident in the renovation of the Fargo Theatre, located in downtown Fargo, North Dakota.
