JDLink™ Machine Monitoring System

John Deere's JDLink Product
JDLinkTM Machine Monitoring System Customer FAQS

How does the system work?
Data, collected from equipment, is presented to site and fleet managers to enable them to more effectively monitor utilization and health of the equipment. The remote monitoring system collects pertinent data from equipment and transmits it via a dual band digital / analog cellular modem, back to a database. The data is conveniently accessed through the web from the customer's or dealer's office and displayed in the form of meaningful information. The Direct system (wired) collects data directly from a machine for display on the laptop monitor in a format similar to the Ultimate wireless version.

Why are there 4 offerings and who would use them?
Each of the offerings is targeted for specific end users. Rental businesses need to know where the machine is and the number of engine hours to do more accurate billing and improve utilization. JDLink™ Standard satisfies these criteria and is integrated into the RentalMan™ system for automated billing.

Dealer service managers will benefit from JDLink™ Advanced to track machine locations and imminent maintenance needs and will be able to recommend service based on the stored machine operating history.

Customers with larger fleets would certainly have need for machine location but would also want access to the more intimate machine operating data available in JDLink™ Ultimate to track fuel consumption, interrogate diagnostic trouble codes, and improve uptime.

Mine and Quarry owners may not need to know the location of the equipment since, in many cases the machine will never leave one site. With JDLink™ Direct, these owners could capture utilization, machine operating parameters, and would be able to identify opportunities for proactive repairs and operator training without the cost of the wireless communication fees.

Why has John Deere Construction and Forestry formed an alliance with Qualcomm for this product?
Deere C&F brings a thorough knowledge of the internal workings of our machines and the applications in which they work and understand how machine data can be interpreted for scheduling maintenance, tracking utilization, and identifying opportunities for operator training. Qualcomm is the industry leader in telematics both on and off road. They have the infrastructure for transmitting machine data to a web site for storage, interpretation and access through the web from anywhere and a suite of applications that convert the raw data into useful information.

Are there limitations to the equipment JDLink™ can be used on?
The JDLink™ Standard solution works on any machine with a 12 or 24 volt charging system to provide hours, location, and geo-fencing. This is a flexible tool for managing maintenance on a mixed fleet. JDLinkTM Advanced, Ultimate, and Direct are connected directly to the machine communications network (CAN) on select models of Deere equipment. It is proprietary to Deere and provides more detailed information about the machine health and how it is being used.  For more information see your John Deere dealer.

How do I order systems or parts?
Systems and parts can be ordered by your John Deere dealer.

What is the pricing for the systems?
Please contact your John Deere dealer for competitive pricing options.

When will JDLinkTM be available?
JDLink™ Standard system will be introduced in November of 2006.  The JDLinkTM Advanced, Ultimate, and Direct packages will be made available in mid 2007.  Please contact your John Deere dealer for more details.

In what regions will this offering be available?
JDLink™ will be available in the US and Canada and will be fully functional in any area that has cellular coverage. Starting in 2008, satellite capability will be offered that will satisfy the needs for machine information in even the most remote areas of the US and Canada.

What offerings are available for which equipment?
