MOLINE, Illinois (September 17, 2007) - The Lake States Logging Congress held its 62nd annual show in beautiful Escanaba, Michigan, on September 6-8. Alternating between Michigan and Wisconsin, this year’s Congress was held at the Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds along Lake Michigan, with 250 exhibitors displaying the latest offerings in timber harvesting. The show was well attended, drawing over 5,000 registered visitors.

John Deere Forestry and their Lake States dealer, Nortrax, were the show’s major sponsors. Their exhibitor site attracted a large number of visitors with one of the most impressive static displays of the show. One of Deere’s latest innovations, the 759J Tracked Harvester with a Waratah 622B, was displayed dramatically on a small hill near a log pile. Visitors could also kick the tires of John Deere’s new 748H Grapple Skidder as well as a 1010D Forwarder, two 1110D Forwarders1270D Wheeled Harvester with new Deere 480 processing head, 444J Loader450J Dozer, and 320 Skid Steer Loader.

The large John Deere tent provided a comfortable refuge from the occasional rain shower, where guests could eat peanuts and speak with one of the many Nortrax staff from stores all around the region. Visitors could also shoot hoops and buy raffle tickets to support Log-A-Load-For-Kids. Nortrax raffled off a grill, John Deere benches, and a dartboard while raising $1500 for the fund, which benefits local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

After the show on Friday, Nortrax held a customer reception at its nearby Escanaba store. Over 300 customers attended the event, which was hosted by store General Manager Ken Knauf and Nortrax Regional Vice President Tim Murphy. Guests enjoyed burgers, brats, and corn on the cob, while swapping logging stories and ideas with John Deere and Nortrax staff.

"We had a great turnout for the show and open house, despite the weather," says Knauf. "Actually, the rain may have brought out a few extra people who couldn’t work."

John Deere and Nortrax look forward to the next Lake States Logging Congress in 2008, which continues to be one of the most prestigious shows in the region. Many thanks to all the John Deere customers who attended the show!
