2007 John Deere Forestry News and Press Releases

John Deere 810D, 1010D and 1410D Eco III forwarders now available

John Deere Forestry 1410D MOLINE, Ill. (February 19, 2007)—John Deere’s Eco III harvester and forwarder model collection is now complete. The newest models of John Deere forest machine collection, the John Deere 810D, 1010D and 1410D forwarders, are now equipped with the same innovative Eco III product attributes familiar from other John Deere forest machine models. Sales of the new Eco III series of forwarders will begin immediately; deliveries from the factory will start later this spring.

Automatic work RPMs

John Deere 810D, 1010D and 1410D Eco III forwarders are equipped with automatic work RPMs. The engine’s work RPMs are automatically lowered to idle if the boom is not used within the set time. The engine’s RPMs are automatically increased when the work is resumed. The machine operator can set the work RPMs to be automatically lowered within 3–20 seconds if the work is interrupted for a phone call, for example. The system reduces noise levels and fuel consumption and thus daily operating costs.

Improved cooling capacity for hydraulics

The radiator honeycombs for the hydraulics and the supercharger of the new 810D, 1010D and 1410D Eco III forwarders have been enlarged. The radiator honeycombs have also been vertically positioned to even out the airflow through the different honeycombs. Consequently, the cooling capacity of the working hydraulics’ radiator honeycomb has increased as much as 25 percent. This reduces the potential overheating of the working hydraulics and increases the forwarder's productivity and uptime also in warm conditions.

John Deere PowerTech Plus™ engine

The new John Deere 810D, 1010D and 1410D Eco III forwarders are all equipped with the innovative John Deere PowerTech Plus™ engines designed especially for heavy machine use and are compliant with strict Tier III emission regulations. Because of the new PowerTech Plus™ engines, the maximum output of the engines are up to 6 percent higher than before, depending on the model.

The main improvements compared to the previous engine are:

- Maximum output is up to 6% higher than before, depending on the model,
- Improved torque in low work RPMs
- Faster transient response
- Cooled exhaust gas regulations (EGR) system
- Variable geometric turbocharger (VGT)
- 4-valve cylinder head
- High-pressure common rail fuel system (HPCR) in all models
- Viscous fan clutch as standard equipment
- Improved engine diagnostics

EcoDrive (810D and 1410D) is a new software feature that optimizes the engine's RPMs with a hydrostatic transmission ratio to achieve the desired vehicle speed at the lowest possible RPMs. EcoDrive can be used in both slow and fast driving conditions. EcoDrive automatically engages in slow driving in the forest. EcoDrive can also be engaged during fast driving on level, easy terrain, like on a forest road. EcoDrive reduces noise levels and fuel consumption and thus daily operating costs.
