John Deere Skidders Lead the Industry in Reliability and All-Out Productivity

MOLINE, Ill. (May 18, 2006)—For more than 40 years, John Deere Skidders have proven to be the most reliable, hardest working machines in the woods. An extensive lineup of models and options lets loggers make the perfect skidder for their particular application.

The new cleaner-burning, environmentally friendly 648G-III Grapple Skidder is the first to meet all stringent EPA CARB emission non-road regulations by efficiently reducing emissions without timing retard, and maintaining the legendary John Deere power. That power comes from the 6.8L PowerTech Plus™ engine that delivers 171 horsepower.

An enhanced cooling system was developed for the 648G-III. It features a sucker fan design, which efficiently draws air in the front through the cooling package and out the sides.

Other updates include a hydraulic reversible cooling fan that is temperature controlled. This allows the fan to run only when needed, minimizing horsepower use and drag. New bulkhead fittings in the cab improve the electrical system’s reliability and simplifies serviceability. And the fuel tank is 10 gallons larger for increased productivity and less time spent fueling.

The 8.1L PowerTech™ engine in the 748G-III delivers 177 horsepower. Its great power-to-weight ratio and outstanding drawbar pull enables the 748G-III to skid heavy loads. An oscillating front axle, wide stance, long wheelbase, and heavy-duty articulation joint get those loads over treacherous ground and back to the landing.

Both models feature the best-in-class isolation-mounted cab John Deere is known for with low-effort controls that minimize operator fatigue. The advanced, electronically controlled, common rail fuel injection system automatically adjusts power as the weight increases for faster cycle times.

No matter what the terrain, loggers worldwide have relied on John Deere Skidders to be productive for the long haul.

John Deere (Deere & Company – NYSE:DE) is the world's leading manufacturer of agricultural and forestry equipment; a major manufacturer of construction equipment; and a leading supplier of equipment used in lawn, grounds and turf care.
