Increased Productivity and Lower Emissions

New John Deere 1270D and 1470D ECO III harvesters and forwarders

John Deere is now introducing the ECO III models of its 1270D and 1470D harvesters. The new 1270D and 1470D ECO III harvesters, with a Tier 3/Stage III certified PowerTech PlusTM engine, feature lower emissions and higher productivity with better fuel economy. The first ECO III forwarder, John Deere 1710D, will be launched in August.

John Deere 6090 PowerTech PlusTM

The heart of the new ECO III units is the new John Deere 6090 PowerTech PlusTM engine. The Tier 3/Stage III certified PowerTech Plus™ engines offer many advanced features, like best-in-class fuel economy, increased torque and very high performance. The engines now incorporate e.g. cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), a more advanced two-phase fuel injection control system, and quiet running. The Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) and four-valve technology further boost engine efficiency and transient response.

Greater low speed torque

Eco III units comprise a new software feature that optimizes the engine’s RPMs with a hydrostatic transmission ratio to achieve the desired vehicle speed at the lowest possible RPMs. The Eco pull can be used in both slow and fast driving conditions. It automatically engages in slow driving in the forest. The Eco pull can also be engaged during fast driving on level, easy terrain, like on a forest road. This results in lower fuel consumption, better productivity and a more comfortable work environment for the operator.

Better transient response

The new ECO III harvesters and forwarders are also equipped with the so-called automated work RPMs. The engine’s work RPMs are automatically lowered to idle if the harvester head or boom is not used within the set time. The machine operator can set the work RPMs to decrease within 3-20 seconds if the work is interrupted. The RPMs automatically increase once the work is resumed. This system reduces noise levels and fuel consumption, and thus decreases operating costs.

“Diesel of the Year” and “A Top 100 Product of the Year” awards to the PowerTech Plus™

John Deere’s PowerTech Plus™ engine was awarded the Diesel of the Year 2005 by DIESEL magazine, a European professional magazine specializing in diesel engine technology. DIESEL magazine has been tracking developments in diesel engines around the world for more than twenty years.

According to the jury, John Deere’s PowerTech Plus™ engines combine the advanced features of a modern diesel engine, features like best-in-class fuel economy and increased torque and performance, while meeting TIER III emission regulations.

The PowerTech Plus™ engine has also received a Top 100 Product of the Year award from the Construction Equipment magazine. The magazine considers about 700 different new products every year, and last year it gave the award to John Deere’s PowerTech Plus™ engine. The award serves to emphasize innovation, highlighting manufacturers who are investing in research and development.

John Deere PowerTech Plus™ in brief:

- 9.0 L diesel engine
