A Whole Lot of Swinging

A Whole Lot of Swinging

Up in the northern pine forests of British Columbia, Arnold Bremner and his crew are hard at work. Bremner is the owner of Clusko Logging Enterprises in Prince George, and Westline Harvesting Limited in William’s Lake. If you were to find one of his crews out on the job site, you’d likely run into a small army of Swing Machines and other John Deere equipment.

Bremner owns a lot of John Deere equipment to get the work done, and a big part of his fleet are 2054 Swing Machines with various attachments. Clusko Logging Enterprises runs two 2054 loaders, five new 2054 processors, as well as five 1710D John Deere forwarders, and two 903 feller bunchers. At William’s Lake, Westline Harvesting runs two 2054 loaders, six 2054 processors, a 2054 excavator, four 748GIII skidders, as well as another pair of feller bunchers – one 853J and one 753J. All together, Arnold Bremner’s impressive fleet includes sixteen John Deere Swing Machines.

A Whole Lot of Swinging

“They’re smooth and efficient, and they seem to do what it takes,” he says. “The majority of the 2054s that we use are for processing, and they do a good job all around.”

John Deere Swing Machines have built a reputation of strong, efficient, reliable equipment – and the next generation of Swing Machines is here. They are adaptable to several applications: road building, shovel logging, processing, stroke delimbing, or log loading. Model choices include the 2154D, 2454D, 2954D, and 3554. The latest models of Swing Machine were just released this year. With features like optimized serviceability, better performance, and large, comfortable cabs, it’s no wonder they’re so popular.

“They’re all-around operator friendly, for sure. The guys seem to like to run them and what have you,” says Arnold. “As far as the service and working on them, they’re very competitive with anything that’s out there. Their serviceability and so forth is very good.”

Arnold also really likes his 1710D forwarders, of which he has five. The forwarders keep the wood piles organized in a tight space, and are quite manageable on the northern terrain, where winter comes early and stays late.

“Typically we have a lot of sorts, therefore we need more room at the roadside. That’s why we use the forwarders; they allow us to do a lot more sorts. And with our wetter ground, it also allows us to get around a lot easier. They’re also very environmentally friendly. They’re low ground pressure machines.”

Keeping the ground in tact does not just make good environmental sense, but it helps to move things along at the landing, where work is both delicate and fast-paced. Clusko Logging Enterprises and Westline Harvesting Limited have a tall order in front of them as far as their work loads go, but they manage to stay on top of things with help from a good fleet of John Deere equipment.

Arnold Bremner is serviced by Brandt Tractor in both Prince George and William’s Lake.
