Meet the Super Seven

Meet the Super Seven

Whether you’re facing big timber or small stems, sloped or smooth ground, hard or soft wood – John Deere has a felling head that’s perfect for you.

There are seven impressive John Deere disk saw felling heads to choose from: FB20, FD22B, FD45, FS20, FS22B, FR22B, and FR24B.

For drive to tree feller bunching applications, pair up with either the FB20, FD22B, or FD45 felling head.

John Deere’s FD22B disk saw felling head is compatible with both the 643J and 843J wheeled feller bunchers, and is the only head offered on the 843J. This head is all you need to handle a wide range of wood: hardwood, softwood, thinnings or final cuts up to 559.0 mm (22 inches). The FD22B has an increased tilt-back angle for better load transfer capabilities and stability, especially on sloped ground. The design of the horn and gathering arms keeps stems aligned for larger bunches and better stem control, and wider spacing between the gathering and accumulation arms aids stem control further. The FD22B can accumulate an impressive 5.2 sq. ft. (.48m2) of timber – enough to keep you going longer between rounds and maximize your productivity.

The FB20 shear and FD45 heads are also available on the 643J wheeled feller buncher. Both heads are an excellent choice for thinning operations, cutting stems up to 20 inches (508 mm). Like the FD22B, the FB20 can accumulate 5.2 sq. ft. (.48m2) of timber, while the FD45 can handle even more – 6.9 sq. ft. (.64 meters squared), the most of all John Deere felling heads. Both the FB20 and FD45 have a twin-post design with side pocket, which helps the operator have a clear view of the work site.

Meet the Super Seven

On the swing to tree side, choose from the FS20, FS22B, FR22B or FR24B depending on your feller buncher model.

The FS20 is compatible with 753J and 759J tracked feller bunchers, and handles a mixed stand with ease. The FS20 is ideal for small diameter thinning or handling of large single stems of up to 22 inches (559mm). Its arm design supports an accumulation capacity up to 4.6 sq. ft. (.43 meter squared).

Also available on the 753J, as well as the 853J, 903J, and 909J (standard boom only) tracked feller bunchers is the FS22B felling head. This flexible head cuts up to 22-inch stems as well. The FS22B accumulates up to 5.2 sq. ft. (.48 meter squared) of timber. Both the FS20 and FS22B feature a versatile 30-degree wrist for +/- 15 degree rotation for added strength and optimal control.

For greatest control, the FR22B and FR24B heads will reach out to big or small stems with impressive flexibility. Both heads feature a high-rotation, bolt-on wrist allowing for more than 300 degrees of rotation – 310˚ on the FR24B and 312˚ on the FR22B. The FR22B handles stems up to 22 inches (558.8 mm), and accumulates 5.2 sq. ft. (.48 meter squared) of wood. The FR22B is available on the 853J, 903J, and 909J (standard boom only) tracked feller bunchers.

The FR24B is the most impressive of all, cutting stems up to 24.5 in. (622.3 mm), and accumulating more than six square feet of wood – 6.42 sq. ft. (.60 meters squared). The FR24B is available with the 953J and 959J tracked feller bunchers. Success at the cut-block depends on reliable equipment, and John Deere felling heads teamed up with versatile and smart John Deere feller bunchers, either wheeled or tracked, really help you get ahead of the rest – no matter what kind of timber you’re harvesting!
