There's Been Another Sighting

John Deere 2954D Swing Machine

See the new brute in the forest.
The newest swing machines from John Deere are "bigger, stronger, and better than any swing machine that's gone before," declares Dave McFarlane, John Deere Forestry Swing Machine Product Marketing Manager.

Deere recently unveiled its redesigned, beefed-up 2154D, 2954D, and 3754D Swing Machines, while adding a brand-new model, the 2454D, to the lineup. "It was the missing link," explains McFarlane, "and it means customers have more options and choices than ever before."

More powerful, more efficient
The newer, tougher, more agile D-Series machines have powerful fuel-efficient Tier 3 engines,
and feature mammoth swing bearings from the next-size-up construction excavators. According
to McFarlane, the swing system increases bearing life and swing torque by up to 21-percent,
"and more torque means more wood to the roadside." The machines also feature next-size-up
undercarriage components for longer life in tough environments.

Customer voices led the way
Customer feedback was a big part of the makeover, right down to the smallest detail.
"Our customers asked for more power, and they got it," explains McFarlane. "They asked for
a better heel rack, and they got that, too." He notes that D-Series heel racks are two-and-a-half
times stronger than in previous machines. And asked-for improvements don't stop there.

Improved attachment performance
The redesign includes industry-leading factory solutions such as integration with Waratah
processing heads. These integrated machines are equipped with a purpose-built processing
front and improved hydraulic routing, delivering enhanced productivity and reliability. "Thanks
to the integrated front, you won't have to add stick-and-hoist cylinder adapters," explains
McFarlane.

The new design also improves attachment performance for the 2154D, 2954D, and 3754D, with
the addition of new, larger hydraulic piping and Deere tool cylinders for superior lifting envelopes.

Smart cooling
Hydraulically driven variable-speed cooling fans run only when needed, reducing fuel consumption
and noise. And when the reverse fan option is combined with basic external screening, the
radiator and oil cooler cores can be purged while keeping trash buildup to a minimum.

Highly evolved
"The D-Series sets a new industry standard for toughness. They're purpose built and all about power and durability," concludes McFarlane. "And because they build on past performance, customer feedback, and the latest advances in technology, they're truly highly evolved machines."
