Intelligent Productivity

Intelligent Productivity

Felling trees has traditionally been very long and tiring work; that was especially true in the days before mechanization. The tools back then were much simpler and the work was more exhausting. Today, loggers are able to use much more sophisticated equipment. Modern measuring and control technology by John Deere allows for cuts to be made quickly, at exact specifications, and with office communication to go.

Measuring and control systems on modern forestry machines have carried loggers into the computer age. These systems are intricate, yet very user friendly. Many John Deere forestry machines use one or both of two such systems: Timbermatic and Total Machine Control. Both systems use a multi-colored, easy-to-read screen for quick visual reference, along with comfortable hand controls designed for ergonomic ease.

Intelligent Productivity

The Timbermatic Measuring, Control and Communication System comes in three different applications, depending on the machine you’re using: Timbermatic 300 is for harvesters; Timbermatic 700 is for forwarders; and Timbermatic 900 is for slash bundlers.

Timbermatic works like a central operating system for these machines and all their intricacies. Because it is Windows-based, it’s as easy to learn and use as a home computer. It supports office applications right in the cab of the machine, such as email, CD ROM, memory cards and a colour printer, making communication and record-keeping easy and accurate.

Intelligent Productivity

Timbermatic 300 for harvesters includes a standard GPS component, which makes it possible for the operator to register the precise location of a route or production area; all that is required is a GPS aerial. The TimberNavi map system uses a universal coordinate map system. It provides information on production, location, and routes, and can be transferred to the Timbermatic 700 system for forwarders.

Timbermatic manages all machine functions in cooperation with the Total Machine Control (TMC) system. TMC is used independently on some machines, such as the 853J, 903J, and 953J feller bunchers, and together with Timbermatic, as on the wheeled harvesters and forwarders.

TMC is a great help for modern day logging operations, allowing operators to make precise cuts, keep a close eye on all machine functions right from the cab via the monitor, and control or adjust all of those functions at the touch of a button. The system supports the operator in decision-making and eliminates guess-work.

With the John Deere measuring and control system, processing trees takes less time and energy because of the precision from the first cut. The machine is able to be used to it’s full capability, and productivity for the logger can be taken to a new level.

It’s just a smart way to log!
