Bundle, Baby, Bundle

John Deere 2954D Swing Machine

In a world concerned with reducing climate change and increasing North America's domestic energy sources, the mantra may change From "drill, baby, drill" to "bundle, baby, bundle!"

Bundles are deemed carbon neutral because the amount of carbon dioxide generated from burning them is equal to the amount naturally released into the atmosphere when logging waste is left in the forest to decompose. And decomposing wood in a forest won't generate a single Btu of energy.

John Deere has responded to the growing demand for energy wood with the 1490D Eco-III Energy Harvester to North America. It collects, compacts, and wraps slash into easy-transport bundles — former waste transformed into a valuable commodity. This energy-wood-harvesting technology enables forestry entrepreneurs to collect biomass for environmentally sound energy production. The 1490D is quite an efficient machine, and productivity can exceed 40 bundles per hour in areas with plenty of slash on the forest floor.

Forwarder Thinking
John Deere offers a multipurpose version that can be converted by a John Deere dealer from the energy harvester to a standard 1410D Forwarder. The conversion is a simple procedure that can be performed seasonally.

Dedicated To Combating Global Climate Change
Deere & Company first launched an energy-efficiency program back in 1972. This program has grown over the past 37 years, and today John Deere has programs in place to reduce the company's collective carbon footprint. As a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Climate Leaders program, Deere is pledged not only to greener manufacturing protocols, but also to building equipment that allows its customers to contribute to a cleaner environment.
