The 63rd Annual Lake States Logging Congress

John Deere Forestry machines weren’t the only green and gold giants turning heads at the 63rd Annual Lake States Logging Congress, September 4 – 6.

The event was held at the Green Bay Packers' Lambeau Field and Shopko Hall in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Many among the 9,500 attendees strained to glimpse the Packers practicing at the nearby Ray Nitschke field through holes in the privacy tarps hung along the fence.

But nothing stood between Deere’s forestry equipment and the Midwest loggers and their families walking the exhibits.

The show, hosted by the Great Lake Timber Professionals Association, spanned 875,000 square feet outdoors and 75,000 square feet indoors.

Much of that space was taken up by the static forestry equipment display by John Deere dealer, Nortrax, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Nortrax showed off the Deere 703J Harvester with the 1,000th produced Waratah 622B processing head, the 1270D Harvester with Vogel auto lube and clean fix fan, the first-ever JD certified used forestry unit, a 648GIII Skidder, a 759J Feller Buncher with the Gilbert 3022 220 degree rotational head, 1110D 8 Wheel Forwarder, 1010D Wheeled Forwarder, 332 E-H controlled Skid Steer and an all-new 524k Loader.

Brooks Tractor of DePere, Wisconsin, exhibited John Deere Construction equipment.

Nortrax and John Deere sponsored two of the show’s competitions, which gave participants a chance to show off various forestry-related skills and provided entertainment for show visitors. The National Chainsaw Championship’s 5 Cu. In. & Over Hot Saw portion of the Lumberjack Competition was of particular note as participant Jason Helsel set a new logging congress record of 3:54 seconds.

First place winners of the Industry Load Competition were:

  • Ort Transportation, of New London, Wisconsin, in the Log Load category
  • Central Wisconsin Lumber, Marathon, Wisconsin, in the Veneer category
  • Stodola Timber Transport, Pound, Wisconsin, in the Pulpwood category
  • Ort Trucking, New London, Wisconsin, in the Lumber category.
