New John Deere Wheel Loaders Bring Maximum Productivity to Small Jobs

New John Deere Wheel Loaders Bring Maximum Productivity to Small Jobs MOLINE, IL (August 4, 2004) - With unmatched maneuverability, versatility and productivity, the new John Deere 244J and 304J wheel loaders are perfectly suited to many jobs that require size and muscle.

"Each feature on the 244J and 304J was designed for maximum productivity," said David O'Keeffe, product marketing manager, John Deere Construction & Forestry Company. "These maneuverable loaders offer second-to-none performance, versatility and comfort, keeping operators productive."

Several features of the 244J and 304J increase productivity by enhancing the operator's comfort. An adjustable seat and armrest and tilt steering allow the operator to adjust his immediate environment. A walk-through cab with increased head room provides accessibility from either direction, and a single lever, Forward-Neutral-Reverse (FNR) loader control delivers easy operation. Full, 360-degree visibility and a clear line of sight to the attachment points also maximize operator productivity. Optional ride control delivers a smooth, easy ride. Air conditioning also is available as an option.

Exceptional versatility keeps these loaders as productive as possible. Quick changes from one attachment to another are made possible through the standard coupler and Deere's exclusive Quik-Tatch® feature. The Quik-Tatch  coupler allows the operator to pick up skid steer attachments from the seat, resulting in a more versatile machine.  The standard "return-to-dig" mode allows the operator to quickly reposition the bucket for digging or working at ground level.  The inching/brake pedal maximizes the operator's control over travel and working hydraulics.

Smooth operation is a key benefit of the 244J and 304J. One feature that contributes to the smoothness of these loaders is stereo steering, which delivers a tighter turning radius with increased maneuverability. High/low drive ranges also allow the operator to control travel speed to increase cycle times. A manual differential lock increases traction and reduces tire spin, which lowers the amount of disturbance to the ground in soft soil conditions and prevents excess material from tumbling into the hole so the operator can dig more quickly.

"With exceptional breakout force, easy control, and smooth operation, these loaders can dig quickly and efficiently, as well as get increased cycle times with less material spillage," O'Keeffe said.

The 244J and 304J also provide maximum uptime due to various features that enhance durability, reliability and ease of service. The durable inboard, wet disc park brake is spring applied and hydraulically released, and is sealed against the elements. Electrical components are protected by sealed connectors, ensuring continual operation in adverse conditions without interruption in power. The outside mirrors and lights can take more damage than other designs in challenging conditions. Fewer pivot points result in increased reliability and less daily maintenance. A boom lock provides safer access to components that are located under the boom area. Tire scuffing is decreased due to the machine design. A removable electrical disconnect switch provides vandal protection without the need for specialized tools.

A number of standard features result in low daily operating costs, according to O'Keeffe. John Deere PowerTech® 4024T and 5030T engines provide the 244J with 59 hp and the 304J with 73 hp, respectively. Both machines deliver longer regular scheduled maintenance intervals. A proportional fan drive delivers reduced horsepower draw-down and optimized cooling. Hydrostatic drive provides reliable power that controls travel hydraulics for increased power and stability. The combination of the engine, fan drive and hydrostatic drive deliver better fuel economy.

"These loaders will perform well in any application that needs maneuverability, size and muscle," O'Keeffe said. "They are as productive as a smaller loader gets, and they are strong on performance, as well."
