Updated J-Series Wheel Loaders Feature Tier 3 Engine, Other Enhancements

MOLINE, Ill.(March 5, 2007)-Several models within the John Deere J-Series wheel loader line have been updated to feature new, Tier 3-compliant Deere PowerTech™ Engines, Deere's exclusive Quad-Cool™ cooling system, and other enhancements that deliver productivity, uptime and low daily operating costs.

The 444J, 544J, 624J and 644J Wheel Loaders have been updated to include Tier 3-compliant John Deere PowerTech engines that deliver fuel efficiency, wet sleeve cylinders for long life, and an electronically-controlled fuel system for precise injections. These engines provide strong power and torque for excellent performance in any loader application.

The 644J now features John Deere's exclusive Quad-Cool cooling system. Already a feature on the 444J, 544J and 624J, Quad-Cool is the easiest cooling system to clean, as well as the most resistant to plugging. Rather than being stacked (as with traditional cooling systems), the coolers are mounted on four sides for cleaning access to both sides of each cooler. With the bulkhead separating the engine from the Quad-Cool compartment, the cooling system receives fresh cool air and isn't affected by engine heat. Large air intake areas keep air velocity low, which attracts less airborne debris, and inlet air is pre-screened through 3 mm openings in the side shields-smaller openings than in the fin spacing of the coolers, which helps keep debris out of the system. The system also features a swing-out cool-on demand fan and an optional automatic reversing fan.

"Each feature on these machines was designed for maximum productivity-the J-Series loaders continue to provide performance, versatility and comfort, keeping operators productive," said David O'Keeffe, product marketing manager, John Deere Construction & Forestry Company. "The new enhancements update these machines to Tier 3 standards, as well as adding the convenience and reliability of the Quad-Cool cooling system to the 644J."

Additional enhancements to the J-Series machines include new Teammate IV™ front and rear axles on the 544J, 624J, 644J and 724J. These axles include inboard planetary final drives, a standard front differential lock and self-adjusting, wet disk brakes that provide excellent productivity and uptime. The brakes also provide a self-bleeding feature that makes brake bleeding more convenient for the technician. These axles also feature new, heavier axle housings and shafts and integral axle seal guards, which enhance reliability and uptime. Additional bolt-on axle guards are available for waste handling. A wheel spin control option already provided on the 644J through the 844J now is available for the 444J, 544J, and 624J.  Wheel spin control maximizes production on slippery surfaces and eliminates tire spin.

The updated machines continue to feature all of the other advantages the J-Series offers. Solid state electronics-another Deere exclusive-give the best long-term electrical reliability available on a wheel loader by greatly reducing the number of wires, plug-in relays and unsealed connections, as well as providing a sealed fuse box with sealed wire connections. The monitor includes on-board diagnostics to simplify service and mode selection to match machine performance to the application or operator's preference. The sealed switch module is easy to use and designed to last the life of the machine. Completely sealed from dirt and moisture, it is compact, accessible and backlit so it's easy to use at night. A spring-applied, hydraulically released sealed wet disk park brake provides excellent braking performance and reliability. J-Series machines are easy to service, with all daily maintenance points on the left side at ground level and with sight gauges for quick fluid level checks. The industry's smoothest shifting transmission adapts to speed and load while providing smooth gear and directional shifts. And efficient, excavator-style hydraulics are load-sensing and pressure-compensating for the right amount of power efficiency, providing quick hydraulic response and excellent digging power.

"These loaders will perform well in any application that needs maneuverability, size and muscle," O'Keeffe said. "With exceptional breakout force, easy control, and smooth operation, these loaders can dig quickly and efficiently, as well as provide quick cycle times with less material spillage."
