J-Series TMC Backhoes

Whether you need a small backhoe for moderate duty applications or a larger machine with extra-strong digging and craning specs for big jobs, there’s a J-Series Backhoe to help you get the job done. The new J’s offer the same advantages that made our G-Series machines so popular, such as easily interchangeable attachments, superb metering and control, ground-level service, and the lowest maintenance costs in the industry.

And with durability-boosting enhancements like the solid-state electrical distribution center, the sealed-switch module, and the improved cooling system, John Deere backhoes are even more reliable and cost less to run.

Simply more productive
Go ahead — bust up blacktop, pick up pipe, dig deep, or load trucks. J-Series Backhoes are more than up to the task. High-pressure hydraulics deliver more muscle at both ends. Excavator-style hydraulics blend functions smoothly, so your operators won’t have to work hard to be more productive.

The easy-to-operate PowerShift transmission is now standard on all machines, for faster acceleration, higher transport speeds, and better hill-climbing ability. It lets you smoothly shift through forward and reverse gears with a twist of the wrist. A neutral-start switch helps prevent accidental machine movement. PowerShift continuously evaluates the backhoe’s speed and load conditions to deliver smooth, on-the-go clutchless shifting. Limited-slip MFWD can also now be engaged “on the fly,” making it easier to get in and out of piles.

As with G-Series machines, the cab is spacious and comfortable, with an almost panoramic view in any direction. New features include an infinitely adjustable tilt steering wheel that fits any size operator and angles completely out of the way for easier entry and exit. Sculpted armrests on TMC units are fully adjustable for daylong comfort and support.

NeverGrease Pin Joints from John Deere
On TMC machines a conveniently located mini joystick lets you run the loader and backhoe without removing your hands from the controls.

When you need to extend the workday beyond daylight hours, a standard deluxe lighting package with an industry-best 10 lights provides 360-degree illumination. Other new features include an industry-exclusive rotary-dial throttle with cruise control and a fuel-saving auto-idle function on TMC units — there’s even a more user-friendly pull door latch. Looking for more ways to beat fatigue and boost productivity? Opt for a sound-suppression package that significantly reduces noise.

Do more without lifting a finger
If you are really looking to maximize productivity, add the Total Machine Control package to a 310SJ or 410J Backhoe for intuitive, effortless fingertip control. Joysticks in each armrest provide quick, smooth control of loader and backhoe attachments, as well as other functions such as MFWD. The result is up to 20-percent faster cycle times.

With the controls located conveniently in the armrests, you can operate the backhoe facing up to 90 degrees away from the back of the machine — perfect for when you need to focus on work off to the side or when working along a road side or in confined spaces.

Need to reposition the machine or get unstuck?  There’s also a mini joystick conveniently located in front of the right-hand controls, so you can run both the loader and backhoe at the same time while keeping your hands on the joysticks. No more reaching back behind the seat to grab the loader controls.

TMC offers a choice of three hydraulic-function speeds, so you can match the backhoe speed to the application. Choose the slow speed mode when craning, working in confined spaces, digging around fiber optics or utilities, or training. There is also a normal operating speed, as well as a fast-speed mode for high-volume applications such as bailing dirt.

Unparalleled parallel-lift capability
Looking to give productivity an even bigger lift? Add a tool-carrier option to your TMC-equipped 310SJ or 410J Backhoe and watch productivity instantly rise. Tool carriers provide additional lift capacity and parallel lift capability that is, well, without parallel in the industry.

And with the tool-carrier option, you won’t have to worry about replacing your existing attachments. The loader quick-coupler allows you to hook up to existing John Deere attachments, as well as select competitor attachments, for more versatility.

And unlike mechanical linkages, the exclusive electrohydraulic parallel-lift design reduces bushing wear because it eliminates Z-bar linkage and self-leveling rods.

Other standard features on all J-Series machines speed maintenance and serviceability. The easy tilt hood provides wide-open access to the engine, air filters, and coolant reservoirs. Same-side ground-level service access makes quick work of the daily routine. Service intervals have been extended so you can work longer between changes.

If something goes wrong, the monitor displays easy-to-understand diagnostic information and possible solutions to get you back up and running more quickly.

With these and other timesaving features such as a swing-out a/c condenser and self-adjusting serpentine belts, you’ll spend less time and expense getting your backhoe ready for work — and more time getting work done.
