Detailed Cleanout Procedure Needed for Identity Preserved Crops

Symptoms
Need a more detailed cleanout procedure for planting identity preserved crops.

Situation or Problem
No detailed cleanout procedure exists.

Summary
Follow the following procedures for complete planter cleanout.


CAUTION: Wear personal protective equipment (safety glasses, respirator, etc.) as needed.

For basic cleanout see OM under "Operating the Machine".

For detailed cleanout do the following:
Empty hopper per OM.
Inspect bottom of hopper for lodged seeds.
Place hoppers out of the way behind machine.
Remove accumulated dirt and seeds from the top of row unit shank.
Remove seed tube cover and seed tube.
Inspect seed tube for dirt and/or lodged seeds.
Inspect row unit shank and seed tube guard for soil and/or seeds.
Inspect the remaining row unit components for soil or seed buildup (opener blades, gauge wheels, closing wheels, etc.).
Clean planter frame and inspect for seeds. Especially around wiring harnesses, frame brackets, and hoses.
Inspect tractor and planter tires for soil and/or seed buildup.

Plastic 3 bu hoppers:
Remove hopper lid at molded slots at front of lid slide groove.
Inspect for seeds on inner lip on top edge of hopper.

Vacuum meters:
Clean dust/debris out vacuum manifold per OM.
Remove seed disk and clean seeds from brush and meter housing.
Inspect seal on meter cover and inspect for seeds behind seal.
Reassemble meter.

Finger Pickup Meters:
Remove meter from hopper.
Remove plastic cover from meter and inspect fingers and brush for lodged seeds.
Spin meter several times to remove seeds from belt area.
Reassemble meter.

Radial Bean Meters:
Remove bowl from meter.
Inspect for seeds in brushes and around the singulating flipper.
Reassemble meter.

Feedcups:
Remove feedcup housing from meter.
Inspect for seeds.
Reassemble meter.
