Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are my training options?

As a customer, you have multiple avenues to access training. Your local John Deere dealer can be a terrific source of information, whether through one-on-one assistance from an employee, or though a customer clinic/event. You can always check with the dealership to see what options are available.

In addition, the John Deere Company offers several training options. Customer Connect training is delivered via the internet. Using your computer, you can log in and participate in two types of classes:
Distance Learning Modules (DLMs) are self-paced, web-delivered courses that are accessible via John Deere University 24 hours a day. These courses generally feature some interactivity and conclude with an assessment to help you gauge your learning. On average, most DLMs can be completed within two hours, though once enrolled in a DLM, you have 15 months to complete it.

Distance Learning Classrooms (DLCs) are live, interactive courses that use the internet for both audio and visuals. Again, using your computer, this approach enables you to participate in a live class with students from across North America. A presenter guides you through the material, asks questions, and allows ample time for input from you. Generally, classes last for approximately two hours. One particular advantage to the DLC is that your session is recorded and is then accessible by you (FOR HOW LONG?) This allows you to revisit material presented in the class. This learning method is enabled by a software program called Interwise, which can be downloaded for free off of the John Deere University site.

Customer Direct training utilizes a more traditional approach to learning. Instructor-led training allows you and others to come to a training location to take a face-to-face class with a teacher. Generally, these courses have a presentation component and a hands-on component. Because they typically are a full day in length, the subject matter is covered in greater detail and an emphasis is put on practice.

How much does training cost?

Generally, training offered by your local dealer is free of charge. Customer Connect and Customer Direct courses are fee based. When you review the Learning Activity Detail screen for a course in John Deere University, you’ll be able to see the price for the session. When enrolling for a class, you can pay for the class with a MasterCard or Visa on our secure site.

What is John Deere University?

John Deere University, which is accessible through the www.johndeere.com/training  website, is the learning management system used by John Deere for its employees and dealers, as well as customers. JDU is the central website for searching for classes, signing up for sessions, and tracking training histories. It’s also where the Interwise software can be downloaded. First-time visitors will need to register to use JDU.

Can I take a guided tour of John Deere University?

Yes! You will be able to take a site tour after you register in JDU. Look for the “Site Tour” button in the lower right-hand corner of the JDU homepage.

What if I already have a John Deere User ID and password?

That same user ID and password that you have created for other John Deere web applications (JDParts, My Equipment.com, UsedXpress, etc..) will work for John Deere University. Go to https://jdu.deere.com and sign in with your user ID and password. For first-time visitors, register at https://registration.deere.com.

How do I find out what courses are offered?

The “Customer Connect Training” and “Customer Direct Training ” links on this website are great places to start when searching for a specific course. However, John Deere University is the place to go to find the most up-to-date information about course offerings. In JDU, you can search by keyword to see what training is available for specific products.

How do I sign up for a class?

All sign-ups are handled through John Deere University, which you can reach from the www.johndeere.com/training  website. Once into the customer campus, you’ll be able to search for the desired course, as well as sign up. Start by searching for the course using the “search” feature in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. It’s usually easiest to perform a keyword search (a keyword can be a model number). Once the search returns a list of courses, you can double-click on the course titles that sound interesting. This will take you to a “Learning Activity Details” page, where you can review the course description and see available sessions and pricing. Once you’ve found the desired course, select the “continue enrollment” button. Follow the instructions to enroll in the course. If you are enrolling in an instructor-led course and the session you want is full, you may add yourself to the waitlist, if applicable. Shortly after enrolling, a confirmation email will be sent to you.

What are the computer requirements to take courses delivered via the internet?

John Deere University is supported on Microsoft Windows 2000 with Internet Explorer 6 SP1 or Windows XP with IE6 6 SP1 or SP2. The following standard Explorer plug-ins are also required:

  • Macromedia Flash Player 7.0 or higher.
  • Windows Media Player 9 or higher.
  • Sun Java 5 or higher.

Once in JDU, many software applications and plug-ins are available to download. Also, high-speed Internet access is required for best results, as downloading software and/or presentations may be necessary.

Are My Credit Card Transactions secure?

Yes. Every credit card transaction is secured by CyberSource and VeriSign within John Deere University.

After I purchase Online Learning Activity, how do I launch the activity?

All active courses can be accessed from the “My Courses” menu option. You can enter the Web-based course from the “enter activity” link located at the far right of the course listing.
