NEW AIR SEEDERS

1690CCS No Till Soybean Seeder
Question : That 1690CCS looks awesome. Does it cost more than a Kinze 3600 planter?
Answer : Thanks for your interest in the new 1690CCS. One of the great things about the 1690CCS is that it is priced less than a 3600 Kinze planter. Besides the advantage of a lower selling price the 1690CCS offers additional customer values. Consider it’s 100 bushel seed capacity that provides long runs between fill stops. Productivity is also enhanced by ground speed capabilities of up to 8 miles per hour.

Two lines from the same tank?
Question : With a double shute system, can I split one tank into both lines?
Answer : Unfortunately we do not have the ability to split one tank into 2 different air streams. There is no way to lock the bi-pass valve into an intermediate position. However, we do have 3 tank carts that will allow us to direct product flow from any tank into either the top flow chamber or bottom flow chamber of the primary manifold,in any combination.

Velocity meters?
Question: When will air velocity meters be ready for Commodity Carts?
Answer: We currently have no plans for an air velocity sensor. The velocity sensor is an inaccurate measure of velocity; air flow. Many variables can impact the reading a sensor can provide and it continues to be an unreliable source of information.

We would prefer the use of a flow sensor in the primary manifold, unfortunately we do not yet have this available. However, we do have the new tank open lid indicators and we do have blockage as well as seed counting to re-assure you that product is flowing.

1820 Air Hoe Drill Openers
Question : I'm thinking of buying a 1820 my question is can you use sweeps with three inch packers will it leave a level job . I know use a 8800 with harrow
Answer: The 1820 is compatible with a variety of sweeps and shovels. The use of either a sweep or shovel really depends on the application and how much residue you desire to leave on the surface.
Speed will also impact the amount of soil throw as will the width of the sweep. If you control your speed and scour your sweeps, you should get an even flow of soil to minimize any ridging. Typically you can use a sweep with the 1820 and choose the correct seed boot to get the seed into the furrow in the same width as our press wheel. There are many variables but fortunately the seedboot is a determining factor in row width.
Please see your John Deere dealer for more information.

No-Tilling with Air Seeder
Question : We are considering seeding directly into fields that were ripped last Fall. How can we set our 1890 No-Till air seeder and get good depth control on rows seeded over the loose soil in the area where the shanks went through?
Answer : I would not suggest seeding directly into the ripped field, but again it will depend on how much blow-out the ripper has caused or how much settling has occurred over the winter. The concern here is obviously accurate depth control.
If you do choose to do so, I would suggest approaching the rows at an angle so your openers do not match directly with the ripped furrow. Remember to set your depth at the opener and then gauge down pressure and penetration with your active hydraulic down pressure system.

CSS Accuracy
Question : I see the new 1690 CCS in your literature. This looks like a great 15 inch soybean machine. Is the metering system accurate? When can I get a 30 foot version of this machine?
Answer : The metering system on the 1690CCS is a great story. Our research and development has shown that the variation from the highest opener to the lowest opener is only 2% with this machine. A typical box drill with a fluted feed cup has 7-10% variation between high and low openers. A typical air seeder has a 5-7% variation. The advantage the 1690CCS machine has over both air seeders and box drills is that a constant area of the meter is always exposed to the seed, and one meter feeds exactly one row. Planting crops that require seed singulation (seed spacing vs.. population control) is still best achieved by a singulating seed meter on a planter which has a variation of only 0.5%.

1910 Cart
Question: I own a 1900 air cart. What are the major changes in the 1910 cart?
Answer: The 1910 is the next generation Commodity Air Cart from John Deere. There are several improvements over the 1900 to improve operator convenience and productivity.

1. New blue meter cartridge for high rate applications from 50-265#/acre. This is best used for long bearded seeds or high rate fertilizer.
2. New tank lid open indicator gauges. These will alert you to the potential of an air leak at either the lid or the primary manifold.
3. You can choose dual tires on the front of Tow-behind models to increase flotation by up to 100%.
4. You have more overall tire options to choose from or choose the less tire option and then go to bundles.
5. The new conveyor system will improve fill time by 100% and minimize damage to seeds, especially legumes.
6. We are fully compatible with AMS row guidance systems.

Please keep in mind this a sampling of the new items on the 1910. All of these new features will retro-fit to the 1900 Commodity Air Cart.

Conveyor Capacity
Question : How much faster can I fill the tanks on a 1910 cart with the conveyor option as compared to a 7 inch auger?
Answer : The nearest comparison I have is with the 8-inch auger and the conveyor is about twice as fast that. I expect the numbers look a little better in comparison to the 7-inch. As a matter of fact, we had to put a 10-inch inlet on the telescoping spout to handle the flow!

CCS Seed Metering accuracy
Question : Can I change the seeding rate on the go on your new 1690 CCS machines? How do I know the populations rates?
Answer : Both the 1690CCS/1890CCS are equipped standard with 4 sensors and the CT350/450 monitor. This allows the operator to monitor seed population on the go (legumes only.) If you would like to monitor all runs from the meters, that option is available and you may choose that option. With this system, you also get a control box that allows you to change population on the go in the tractor cab. This innovative system allows you to accurately control populations within 2% co-efficient of variation at the meter.

Flexible Air Hoe drills
Question : I am a no-till/minimum-till dry land farmer in western Kansas, with a lot of terraced ground. We plant straight back-and forth over the terraces, and need an air seeder that is flexible enough to maintain seed placement while crossing terraces at any angle. The main problem with most current air seeders is a wide, (usually 12 to 16 feet), center section. You should look at some of the sweep plow frames made by such companies as Sunflower and Quinstar here in Kansas. Until I can find such an air seeder or build one myself, I’ll just have to continue to use my 9400 drills, although they don’t work well in some no-till situations.
Answer : The most desirable configuration with narrow frame sections is the 45’ 1820 Air Hoe Drill. This model has a mainframe width of 15’, an inner wing width of 9.5’ and an outer wing width of 5.5’. The spring cushion hoe opener on the 1820 is exactly the same as the spring cushion hoe opener on your 9400 drill.

Liquid Fertilizer - Air Seeder
Question : Is their anything coming out that can apply liquid urea on disk seeder. Something that can place it in the soil and now rust out all the bearings and bushings.
Answer : John Deere Seeding Group continually evaluates solutions to customer needs. The 1895 Separate Fertilizer Drill was introduced in August 2002. This machine has dry fertilizer capability only. The 1895 has been very popular with growers, but the number one request for this machines is the ability to use Liquid or Anhydrous fertilizer. We are evaluating concepts this spring and look forward to offering an option for Liquid and Anhydrous Fertilizer in the future. Stay tuned and keep in touch with your John Deere dealer. Thanks!

1890CCS No-Till Air Drill
Question : Will John Deere a make 30-ft. 1890CCS?
Answer : Yes. In fact, we are running limited build machines this spring for both the 1690CCS/1890CCS. The Limited builds will utilize a single 70 bu. tank on both the 30/36-ft. models. These should be available mid-July 2003.

2004 model 1890 No-Till Air Seeders
Question : The new model year changes will be published to the Dealer organization in May, 2003. Please see your dealer for more information at that time.
Answer : The new model year changes will be published to the Dealer organization in May, 2003. Please see your dealer for more information at that time.
