GreenStar™ Guidance

What is the Right Choice for you?

When it comes to GreenStar Guidance there is a lot of different alternatives you can take. Here is a simple way to determine which option is best for you.

1. Do you own a John Deere vehicle that is capable of running AutoTrac?
AutoTrac is currently available on the following machines.

Tractors

  • 7720, 7820, and 7920 MFWD Tractors
  • 8000, 8010, 8020, MFWD and Track Tractors
  • 9000 and 9020 Wheel and Track Tractors

Sprayers

  • 4710, 4720, and 4920 Sprayers

Combines (recommended for platform heads)

  • 60 Series combines
  • 50 Series combines (MY 02 & MY 03 Only)

NOTE: AutoTrac for combines will not provide row following capability for harvesting corn.

NOTE: 50 Series Combines require the moisture sensor located in the grain tank for compatibility

2. Do you have fields that require contour guidance?
AutoTrac is a straight-line guidance system that cannot follow contours.

3. Parallel Tracking is the “Right Choice” for you
4. Is operator fatigue an issue?
AutoTrac takes the strain out of driving the machine. By utilizing the hands free steering system operators are able to pay more attention to the equipment and its functions.

5. Is Parallel Tracking Accuracy acceptable?
Parallel Tracking utilizes the StarFire position receiver to obtain GPS corrections. When the receiver is activated with an SF2 subscription the accuracy of Parallel Tracking can be +/- 4 inches pass to pass in optimal conditions.

6. Does the return on your investment justify the purchase of AutoTrac?

Take the AutoTrac Challenge to see if the system will pay off in your operation.

7. Are strip till, ridge till, or drip tape irrigation part of your farming operation?
8. Do you bed your crops or grow high value or closely spaced crops?
If you do not need highly repeatable passes then the next step might give you a headway into the Right Choice for you.

9. Are the tracks you are trying to follow visible in the soil?
If the tracks you are trying to follow are visible, operators may utilize a "Shift Track" feature to keep AutoTrac on track. If the tracks you are trying to follow are not visible the "Shift Track" feature will not help the AutoTrac system.

10. Are operators able to understand and utilize shift track functionality?
With any GPS system satellite drift may occur. When this occurs operators may use a feature within the AutoTrac system called “Shift Track” to shift the track to the right or to the left.

11. Are you willing or could base stations and repeaters be set up to maintain a direct line of site within a six-mile radius of your fields?
To obtain the highest accuracy a base station would need to be set up within six miles of the field you are operating so that the receiver can obtain the most accurate readings. The only way for the signal to be accurate is to have the signal in a direct line of sight between the base station and the receiver that is mounted on the machine. A repeater antenna can also be installed onto the receiver to overcome small hills or other obstructions that might get in the way of the line of sight of the receivers signal.

12. AutoTrac Guidance with SF2 differential corrections is the “Right Choice” for you.
AutoTrac with SF2 is a highly accurate assisted steering system.

13. AutoTrac Guidance with RTK differential corrections is the “Right Choice” for you.
AutoTrac with RTK is the most accurate assisted steering system in the market today. The repeatability that the RTK system offers is unbeatable.
