California retreat delights all the senses
Dawn breaks over California's Sierra Mountains
and colors emerge from the grays and blues of
night. A palette of greens, purples, golds, and
oranges materializes, and soon the acre of herbs
at Squaw Valley Herb Gardens comes into focus. So
does the meadow that tumbles down the hillside from the garden to lay a blanket of grass and wildflowers at the feet of Pu Su Tao, or Bald Mountain.
The fresh mountain air is still, but it's full of
drama, too: the buzz of bees, a whiff of sage, the gentle touch of lavender, a hint of spice.
