Find Your Fit: How to size up a utility vehicle

JohnDeereHomestead.com Outdoor jobs do not have to be all work and no play. Mixing the two can make your day easier and go much faster. Choosing a utility vehicle that helps you enjoy both can be simple if you are able to keep a few things in mind when shopping around.

What do you want to accomplish?
The types of tasks you tackle have a lot to do with what vehicle you need to select. For instance, will you be travelling and working in smaller areas? Is the place where you would store this machine tight? A compact-sized unit would solve both of these issues.

What type of cargo will you haul? You'll need a heavier capacity if you're hauling pavers and deck materials than you will hauling predominately mulch. For heavy-duty hauling, look for a vehicle that has a cargo box capacity up to 1,000 pounds.

Over what type of terrain will you be traveling? You might need a four-wheel drive vehicle with an aggressive tread pattern. This is especially important if you plan to work in and around muddy areas or hilly and rough spots. Be sure to look for adequate ground clearance, too. You don't want to get "hung up" on something when fully loaded.

Make your list.
There are a few areas on the vehicle itself that require a closer look. Power and speed are good examples. Make sure the machine has the amount you need to get the job done. Check out the cargo box capacity and ensure the box is solidly constructed with a low load height. This will make it easier for loading and unloading. And don't forget about servicing. Are the service points located in primarily one spot and easy to get to? This will help encourage regular maintenance habits later on.

Think big, the possibilities are endless.
The Gator™ Utility Vehicles feature over 180 attachments and accessories. The range of attachments vary from work-focused front blades and winches to trail-riding gear. Customizing your unit is simple.

Sizing up and finding a utility vehicle that meets your demands can be easy if you keep these important points in mind. To learn more about finding the perfect utility vehicle for you, contact your John Deere dealer.
