Self-Propelled Forage Harvester

Customers piece together quality forage

SPFH Putting up quality forage can be anything but a breeze. From getting your corn silage processed “just right” to proper storage management, the entire process can be rather puzzling. That’s why the experts at John Deere put together a 3-day-program to help customers put all the pieces of the high-quality forage puzzle together.

More than 150 dairy producers, feedlot operators, custom harvesters, and John Deere dealers attended the program February 13-16, 2006 in Bakersfield, Calif. They participated in seven sessions lead by top nutritionists, animal health companies, and John Deere representatives:

  • Effects of Kernel Processing on Length of Cut – Dairyland Labs
  • Forage Product Selection - Land O’ Lakes
  • Packing in the Profits - Vita Plus Corporation
  • Quality Forage as a Ration component
  • Introduction to the HarvestLab Moisture Sensor for SPFH – John Deere marketing
  • What is Quality Forage? - Sapienza Analytica
  • 7000 Series SPFH Sales/Features – John Deere marketing

In addition to focusing on crop processing and animal nutrition, customers learned more about their self-propelled forage harvesters and how to keep their machine working at top performance for optimum efficiency. They were also given a sneak peak of the future trends of forage production and future enhancements to John Deere forage harvesting equipment.

Overall, customers were very pleased with the event, and couldn’t wait to get home to put what they learned into action.

“It was the best eight hours I’ve spent talking about quality forage and how to get the most out of my self-propelled forage harvester,” says Tom Braun, owner of Hamp Haven Farms/Wolfgang Dairy in Reedsville, Wisc. “Before we start chopping this Spring I’m planning to sit down and go over what I learned with my employees. I think we’ll be able to run more efficiently and end up with a higher-quality end product.”

Ask your John Deere dealer how you can attend next year’s meeting.
