Growing Deere‘s Business in Kazakhstan

Chairman and CEO Robert W. Lane and ag division president Mark von Pentz recently visited Kazakhstan, one of the most dynamically developing markets in the CIS. During the visit the delegation commemorated the 5th anniversary of the cooperation agreement with John Deere’s distributor, Eurasia GmbH. Both gentlemen also visited several key customers, including mid size Kazakh farmers, financial institutions and large corporate clients, some of these customers producing grain on more than 800,000 ha. The world’s largest farm is located in Kazakhstan. Farms which are cultivating 5,000 to 15,000 hectares in Kazakhstan are considered to be mid size farms.

During their visit the delegation members also opened the first John Deere kids club in the CIS and welcomed its members of. Children represent potential future customers of John Deere at a time when John Deere will prepare for its 200th birthday, 29 years from now.

John Deere enjoys a preeminent market position in the agricultural sector of Kazakhstan. The most popular John Deere equipment sold in Kazakhstan are combines, self propelled sprayers as well as the 9030 series Waterloo tractors, sold in combination with implements and air seeders. Almost 100% of the tractors and sprayers sold in Kazakhstan are equipped with John Deere’s most advanced AMS guidance technology. Over the last three years alone, John Deere sold in total more 2,000 units of Combines, self propelled sprayers, 9030 series tractors, air seeder sets and a large number of tillage equipment.

Kazakhstan has approximately 25 million hectares of arable land, out of which today approximately 15 million hectares are cultivated. The strong commodity prices support rapid growth of the business and encourage a growing number of farmers to reinvest in most modern John Deere agricultural technology.

Kazakhstan is located in Central Asia. It is equidistant from the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean and is the 9th largest country in the world. The total surface is 2,717,300 sq km (approx. four times the size of Texas). The population is 15.1 million people.
