The Saran factory, based near Orleans (France), manufactures diesel engines from 36 to 205 kW and was ISO9002 certified by the AFAQ (Association Française pour l'Assurance de la Qualité) in November 1990. Nowadays, Saran is ISO9001 (2000 version) as well as ISO14001 (environment respect) certified. An administrative centre and marketing branch (responsible for engines sales in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia and Australia) are also hosted at the factory, in addition to the new European Engine Engineering facility, which is dedicated to customer applications management, Emissions (Stage IIIA) and Noise European regulations adherence as well as specific parts conception and development. The latest technologies are also tested in our newly installed test cells.
European Test Facility
Our new European Engine Engineering (E3) R&D facility in Saran houses four specially-developed test cells, including one which can accommodate entire vehicles.
Interim Tier 4/Stage III B regulations became mandatory in Europe in 2011, with Final Tier 4/Stage IV due in 2014. By creating its new R&D facility with a staff of around 120 people, John Deere is ensuring it is at the forefront of application development for vehicles equipped with these engines.
In line with the new Tier 4 regulations, the test facilities are capable of transient cycle as well as steady state testing. This gives a more realistic simulation of engine performance and emissions output, enabling reductions in the engine’s overall environmental impact. The "whole vehicle" cell enables similar testing of engines in vehicles such as tractors or construction equipment.
