Starfire Satellite

John Deere has built many innovative and diverse products in which Information Technology (IT) and Engineering have played a critical role. Here are just a few of the technologically advanced products that have been developed with the help of our IT and Engineering professionals.

Note: These technologies are not available in products manufactured in India.

  • GreenStar™ - The GreenStar AutoTrac System is a hands-free steering system for straight-line operations. Since it's accurate within inches with the new RTK System or +/- 4 inches with the new SF2 signal, it's ideal for use in tillage, spraying, and seeding operations. The new working range for AutoTrac (.3 mph to 18.6 mph) lets the operator choose what speed is right for them to obtain maximum in-field productivity. AutoTrac now can be activated while the tractor is in neutral and is ready when put in either forward or reverse gear. The new reverse operating mode allows the operator to activate in reverse or shuttle through neutral and AutoTrac backwards for 45 seconds.

  • A prototype futuristic tractor, like the one shown at right, uses computers and signals from satellites to drive programmed routes without a human driver aboard. The vehicle receives signals from global positioning system satellites via two 6-inch domes on top. Two antennas on the rear receive signals from a computer on the ground that holds the master plan for the machine's assignment and allows a human to monitor the work remotely. The antennas can also be used if the operator wants to use a joystick to steer the vehicle in or out of its storage shed because the satellite signals won't penetrate buildings or heavy foliage. Out in the open, the tractor will follow programmed routes and electronic maps of the work area, using information from satellites to determine its location and driving at speeds preset by the computer. Deere engineers are convinced the day of the driverless tractor will come for some agricultural jobs such as orchard spraying and, perhaps, fall tillage. This autonomous machine is still in development and not available for sale.

  • Hybrid Power and Advanced Energy Solutions - Deere's Research and Development efforts include exploring the benefits of Hybrid Electric Power, future power systems and the use of new and alternative fuels for our future products. Shown at the right is our latest demonstration hydrogen powered fuel cell vehicle that was delivered to Canada’s Hydrogen Village in Toronto in 2005. The vehicle is emissions free and runs on pure Hydrogen fuel.

Deere's first hybrid product, the award winning 2500E Greens Mower was introduced to the market in 2005. This new product powers the cutting reels with electric power eliminating all of the hydraulic oil leak potential present in older machines.

  • M-Gator™ Utility Vehicles - John Deere has joined forces with the United States military to build a rugged defense vehicle.

  • Satellite and StarFire™ - StarFire is a global position tracking system added to John Deere equipment that can predict and maintain accuracy within 2cm.

  • John Deere Agri Services develops and provides knowledge-based products and services to meet the needs of a wide array of customer groups in the agri-food and fiber supply chain. John Deere recently merged several technology-based operating units, including AGRIS, the leading provider of information technology products and services to the worldwide agribusiness industry.
  • Service ADVISOR™ - The Service ADVISOR application provides technicians the ability to connect directly to a machine for interactive calibration, controller programming, and diagnostics. It also offers Controller Programming, a new state of the art capability not previously available for all the machines with on-board computer networks.
  • AutoTrac™ - AutoTrac is easy to use. First, set the first pass (Track 0) from the GreenStar display. The system will "draw" lines that are parallel to Track 0. Simply press a button on your tractor's CommandARM(TM), and AutoTrac will steer your tractor down these parallel lines. Once you are at the end of the row simply turn the tractor around press the Resume switch on the tractor's CommandARM and let go of the wheel.
