John Deere established the India tractor business in 1997 under a '50:50' joint venture with Larsen and Toubro Limited(L&T).In 2005, John Deere acquired the remaining shares in the joint venture. The India tractor business includes a fully integrated manufacturing facility, John Deere Pune Works with three focus factories - Engine, Transmission and Vehicle Assembly. Spread over 112 acres with 50,000 m2 of covered area at Sanaswadi, Pune, it produces modern tractors from 35 to 75 HP for both domestic and international markets. These include North and South America, Europe and South East Asia where they have earned a reputation for quality.
Major expansion in 2005 led to the genesis of the John Deere Technology Center, Pune. The center provides services in the areas of IT, Engineering Services, Manufacturing Services, Sourcing, Embedded Systems and Technical Authoring for John Deere's operations worldwide.
In 2010, John Deere Water was launched in India. With a fully integrated manufacturing plant in Vadodara, Gujarat, it manufactures and markets high performance micro and drip irrigation products and provides high performance precision irrigation services in India.
John Deere Electronic Solutions initiated its design engineering group, 'Embedded Systems' in 2006, as part of John Deere Technology Center in India. Since then, the design group was providing support to various Deere businesses across the world. As a part of their activities, the group started coming up with unique product differentiating ideas for John Deere's products in India. With increased focus on technology to differentiate its product, in 2009 JDES took a decision to start manufacturing operations. The India chapter of JDES was inaugurated in March 2012 in Lonikand, Pune.
John Deere Sirhind Works, Patiala was inaugurated in January 2012. Spread over 6.43 acres with 9700 m2 of covered area, the facility has a capacity to manufacture 2,300 grain harvesters per year inclusive of all associated equipment such as headers, trailers and other components.
John Deere Dewas Works located in Madhya Pradesh is a new tractor manufacturing factory set up to cater to domestic and international markets situated at Dewas, 21 miles from Indore. The JDDW Indore office was inaugurated in September 2011. The facility has a tractor capacity of 90000.
John Deere Financial India Private Limited is a NBFC started in 2012 with the purpose of providing enhanced credit support for customers for purchasing John Deere equipment. This finance unit leverages technology in providing efficient, flexible and innovative finance solutions.
In addition to these 7 business units, John Deere is a part of a 50:50 joint venture with Ashok Leyland to manufacture backhoes and four-wheel-drive loaders. The manufacturing facility has been set up in Chennai.
