“I’ve been running John Deere combines for over 30 years, and have an excellent relationship with my local dealer, Tim Hunt. Our four year old CTS combine needed replacing for 2005, and so we had a two-day demonstration of the new 9780i CTS Hillmaster model, which was used to cut around 70 acres of oats.
“This was a very heavy crop, probably the most demanding in our entire harvest, and I was very impressed with the combine’s overall power, as well as the feed in from the header and the performance of the Premium straw chopper, which was outstanding.
“The ‘intelligent’ options mean you can just sit back and let the combine get on with the harvest – after a long day in the field I felt noticeably better and more relaxed. The turning view on the GreenStar AutoTrac display is also very good. Our land is very hilly, with a lot of awkward shapes, but we ended up with nice parallel lines across every field.
“Tim Hunt and his two main combine specialists make a great team. The dealer back-up is second to none, no-one even comes close in our area, they’re just superb. They are always on hand when you need them – the longest I’ve ever had to wait for assistance was an hour, which is incredible really.
“As a result of the demonstration, we decided to buy the combine for the 2005 harvest. Once we fully understand how to get the best out of the ‘intelligent’ options, I think the new CTS is going to be an exceptionally good machine.”
